I've been shopping for a four slot myself. I think I've decided on this one.

+1. I got mine just over a month ago and I really like it.

Pay the money and get a Pila - the i4 is nice, but the flashlight boys know a lot more about batteries than the average user here. And keep away from these.

What's the story on this event? Can't tell what type of battery either. Lots of Xtars out there. On Amazon one i4 reviewer mentioned that the included cord seemed a bit small for when charging full four bays large batteries where cord heats up. S/he replaced standard cord with one thicker.

I have a bunch of chargers but no Pila. Have an amazon i4 enroute. I'll observe the cord and report. One thing that does slightly concern me about i4 is that more circuitry to go funky.

I have a very compact 2-bay multi volt/chemistry charger, that does square camera type batteries, too, and a really big one that fat batteries will fit in, both I've had for 10 years. So far they've been working well but not in almost continuous use like the chargers I use for vaping. Small one doesn't take batteries larger than 50mm. I go through boo-koos of AAA and AA cells so they go on a 10 bay charger that won't take anything wider than AA. My charging station is pretty crowded. I use individual flip switches for each plug to avoid having to plug and unplug things so much.

nag nag nag - tinsel all over my kitchen floor! Never leave batteries charging overnight!

an xstar wp11 charger - an imr 18650 efest.

My blase attitude and lack of attention, coupled at the time with no doohickey to test them with - yes i had a multimeter but was too lazy!
There was a fault in the charger, such that it never cut off as they do to trickle charge when a battery is full.

A salutary lesson. Now i have a special charging table and they are all charged in bomb-proof bags, I have a lot of batteries- from 14500s to 18700s and a host of chargers and it has never happened since. I never sleep or leave the house with a battery charging and i suggest you all do the same!

Great advice. I do charge when sleeping but I have a metal shelf unit (thanks for idea Justice) in my storm closet where there are very few combustibles and really close to where we are most of the time. I do keep a lot of smoke/fire alarms and fire extinguishers all over the house.

I do flip lithium battery charging off when I leave house but keep the NiMHs going because of memory affect. Closet is on way out the door.

These two things come in handy major. Extender allows to use all of power strip without power bricks blocking outlets.

I get these at Home Depot. http://www.amazon.com/GE-52149-Handy-Switch-Grounded/dp/B002DNGAZ6

The Nitecores seem to have good rating from extensive testing by the candlepower people. I just got the i2 model a few weeks ago and it works fine. I did have to put some lubricant on the slides. One side makes me use my finger to draw the slide back then insert the battery. They feature cc/cv charging which I guess is desirable. I know nothing about this stuff so I just take the experts word on it. Batteries come off at 4.19. To my door for $15.29.

Hmmmm.....now I'm worried, lol.

I just ordered a Xtar VP1. Anyone know if I should be concerned. This is my first time with 18650s, but I never leave my batteries charging alone and will have the charger placed on an acrylic nightstand next to my ps3. The stand has no problems with heat or electronics.

I got an XTar VP1 and it's the best charger I've ever had, including the Pila! I stack batteries in my Vamo and my Zmax; the VP1 always charges each pair to the exact same voltage every time. The Pila never did. Being able to actually see the state of charge on the digital readout is very handy, and the three different charging levels (.25A, .5A, and 1A) means I can optimally charge all sizes. Get a VP1 and you won't be sorry ... :D
