in my Inbox the legend for the icons shows (what i see as) an opened envelope as unread and a closed envelope as read.. i would think that is backwards? i am using the blackened red skin on the forums.

the blackened red is a "legacy" unsupported skin from several versions ago. WE probably won't be doing much work to fix it because it has several major issues that are not easily fixed (read prohibitively expensive in dev time).

and it's been that way from way back - apparently vb opens the mail for you and closes the envelope when you're done reading!

If you hadn't mentioned it I wouldn't have even noticed.
It obviously doesn't bother me.
well, it bothers topdog and it used to bother me. sarge apparently thought that it happens only in an unsupported skin but that's not so!
Same on ECF-2 Darkened, which I hadn't noticed before either. New PM shows a blue-tinted open envelope, and one that's already read is closed and grey-ish.
That's a bummer, but at least it's functional overall
That's still my favorite skin. I tried the "darkened" a while back and didn't like it
it really used to bug me but, as we know, stuff grows on you after a while! topdog just joined in may, way too early to overlook vb's idiosyncrasies
oh, im used to little quirks in boards. i just prefer a darker theme so it doesnt seem to hurt my eyes as much. my entire computer theme is a dark backgroud with red/greens texts. kinda like a throwback to the original computer monitors with black/orange colors.

but.. i read electronic copies of books and i never close my hardback copies.. i never stop reading lol.
wonder if i can do some client side programming in my browser to swap the icons...
