I find the red colored icon to denote "Hot" topics to be a little annoying. I don't really care if a topic is hot or not and in some sub-forums with little activity, they're all considered "hot topics" due to the lack of activity. I rather see the red color of the icon denote a thread that has unread postings. The red color would make it easily to identify unread messages in a forum catagory as compared to the present "unread" icon which requires you to take a good look at the icons.
P.S. I guess you could define the red color as being orange as well........ depends how good your monitor and peepers are.
