I am a relative new vaper and DIY'er, enjoy a strong Throat Hit, and have a question about the effects of added alcohol on TH.

Studying the post on TH, I understand that TH is affected by NIC level, %PG, strong flavors like menthol, and adding grain alcohol.

I would like to try to increase the TH in my DIY juice by adding alcohol.

My question is, what percentage of alcohol by volume should I start with and what is the max that anyone has used?

Thank you very much for this wonderful source of information!
Bill

Alcohol is not really adding throat hit but more on the lines of adding harshness. % of nicotine is what regulates the amount of truer throat hit. Some add a sour or koolata or a peppery, spicy, Cinnamon flavoring but again that's artifical in regards to throat hit.

Thanks for the info, is there any danger in adding alcohol?
Again thanks,

I started out vaping at 12-18 mg/ml and messed around a lot trying for flavors that would satisfy me enogh to stay off burning leaves. It wasn't until I bumped the nic up to 30 mg that I was actually satisfied enough to not miss smoking. But I had been smoking unfiltered cigs for 35+ years, so my nic tolerance was very high. And my priority at this point is to stay off smoking, so vaping allows me to do that and save the nicotine battle for later.

If your priority is to kick the nicotine addiction, flavors may probably help (others here have far more experience with that than I). But in my opinion, if you are fighting to stay off tobacco and not finding it easy, go with more nic. I find unflavored juice almost 100% satisfies my urges, as long as the nic is high enough, with an occasional flavored juice to break things up. And I have found nothing here or anywhere else that shows nicotine is more harmful than most flavorings, except the addiction part.

Thank you for your response. I absolutely agree with you on the dangers of using nicotine (or actually the lack of it if you take the proper precautions to not OD on it either while mixing or vaping). From what I have read, nicotine itself is no more dangerous than caffeine when handled properly.

I have been tobacco free since March when I started vaping. I find that it is so much more enjoyable and convenient to vape in my house anytime I want rather than to be banished to the outside to get my nicotine fix.

What mix are you using? The higher the PG the higher the throat hit. I find that some flavors hit harder than others. For instance I extracted my own coffee flavoring today and although it tasted not too bad for the first run it hit pretty hard. Actually made me cough lol

Currently I am mixing my e-juice 20/80 PG/VG. I enjoy the denser vapor I get from VG. I was looking for an easier way to get my TH without losing my clouds or increasing the nic (I mix at 12mg currently since I am vaping constantly during the day and did end up with headaches when I first started with 36mg "store bought" e-juice)

I agree with the flavor thing. I find that menthol mixes give me the best TH so far.

I read of some that just couldn't get the TH they desired
so they went this route...

:danger:
sounds like wicked stuff to be inhaling
but you asked...

follow directions very well

Wow! That looks like "awesome sauce" as the TV ad says. It brings back bad memories of handling habaneros and accidentally rubbing my eyes before washing my hands wel enough. Does anyone have any experience with using it?

I have not done it myself and have not done research on it's safety so I will reserve my comment on if alcohol is safe to vape. I can only say that some flavors have alcohol in them and most air the mix because of taste reasons. Maybe someone that is more in the know will be able to comment.

At 20/80 you should be getting a good TH. So it probably is the amount of heat so to speak

Could be my prblem. When I started with bought e-juice, I was vaping at 9 watts and got a good TH. I have dialed it back to 5 watts because the juice in my clariomizer was starting out clear but was turning really dark and gunking up the atomizer. I find that it doesn't get so dark at 5 watts. The cloud was less but still OK for me. I never thought that I would be affecting the TH. I will ramp the watts back up and see if that doesn't help.
