has anyone read about the "evoke" on indiegogo? i'll post the link at the bottom. they won't show any build plans, and for good reason, but they are using induction instead of coils for heating the liquid. this could very well be the wave of the future, if the FDA doesnt stop everything. it makes so much sense i wish i'd thought of it, no coils to burn out, (should) consume less battery, and no more hot parts (supposedly). i'm interested to see opinions on this

so apparently i can't post links yet, well just look up evoke on indiegogo, they are selling them for a reasonable 100 bucks. thinking about getting one, then again it is the first design. if it is a big success i'm sure other companies that have more expertise in the field will surpass it. good to see technology lapping itself once again though.

Hi and welcome....
Yes... the "vaporware" evoke has been mentioned here previously.

They have completed the first round of financing and will now take the "idea" to a real company to be created.

Do a bit of research on what will be required and then try to imagine ALL that hardware in the pretty little wooden cigar they "invented".
I'll not be holding my breath.
caveat emptor
Cheers

I have a device like this for vaping, uh, other stuff... It works great. My only concern with the evoke is that it is also primarily being designed for "other stuff". I'll be interested to see how they accommodate the use of eliquid. If you read more you'll find out that right now they have 3 different prototypes for 3 different uses (leaf, oils/waxes, liquid). They want to shrink it down to one model with interchangeable parts for each, so we shall see if they can make it work

Your similar device uses induction heating also? Could I ask for a link so I can compare it to the Evoke? Thanks.

Ahh I screwed up. I'm sorry. I got my terminology mixed up. The big debate in that other world is convection vs conduction, and I got confused. My apologies. My device does look similar, but it is actually convection (most vapes for that purpose are conduction). You can have a look anyway if you want, it supposedly works with loose leaf tobacco as well.

Whoa, don't apologize. Very useful link. You've opened up a whole new line of research for me. I knew devices for vaporizers for other materials were out there, but it looks like they're more advanced than I thought. As far you know, is the Firefly the only one using convection? Any other especially interesting technologies that up to now are unique to vaporizers for "other stuff."

Again, thanks for the info.

LOL. Just got done watching Vape Critic's review of the Pax. What I like about the Firefly is the clean all glass pathway from... liquid or other material to the mouthpiece (which is also glass in the Firefly). No coil, no wick sitting in the middle of your liquid. The latter is the Evoke's Achille's heel, IMO. Of course, that stainless steel wick is also an integral part of the induction circuit, so even if it weren't needed as a wick, it would still be needed.

As far as the vaporizers used for "other materials," three minutes to warm up, 20 draws, and a 2 hour battery life aren't going to cut it in the e-cig world. (Can we make that the e-vape world? If we keep calling our product cigarettes they'll get treated like cigarettes, not exactly a desirable outcome. But I very much digress.) I'm thinking about how to marry the best ideas from that other vaping world with the best ideas from ours...

Yeah the pax is definitely not made for people looking to get off cigarettes, despite what they say on their website. My buddy had a pax, then upgraded to the firefly and is much happier.

The problem with trying to combine the two worlds is the need for very different heating requirements. Most vapes for said "other stuff" are specifically made for loose leaf or waxes/oils. It's a whole different set of requirements for e liquid. They've got the right idea with evoke, but I don't think they're quite there yet.
