Hey everyone!

BigEric here, 3 weeks into vaping and quitting cigarettes again (hopefully for good this time) and fresh to the forum!.. kinda? Have been stalking and reading posts for the passed few weeks now but finally got to joining.

So technically.. My name is Eric and most ppl call me BigE or BigEric and such. Born and raised in Ft. Worth Texas but have been living in Houston for the passed 5 years now. I'm 26 going on 27 in mid june.. im a Gemini so sometimes im kinda crazy? ish. As a young man/wild teen I got into many bad things, mainly drinking and smoking and unfortunately the main two stuck with me. I started smoking.. cigarettes at least when I was about 16ish but tried my first at 12. Over the years I mainly stuck to smoking black and mild's for the most part, smoking 1-2 a day from 18-21 give or take. I slowed down alot by just smoking a box every week or other week or while at the bar shooting pool and such, but the passed couple years i have been smoking 2 packs a week of pall malls and finally said F it! about 3 weeks ago. I went ahead and ordered the X6 vv mod with a protank 2 from ebay and have been very happy on that so far. Currently I am vaping Aisle 7's Noras Dream, which taste like a bowl of Trix or Fruit Loops.. same thing technically lol. I also have some Holy Grail Elixer strawberry fields which is just amazing as well.

So my other backgrounds include that I am a technology nerd? I think that would suffice as a category for myself. I love tech and science and damn near anything that has to do with some sort of computing and electronics. I left the console plebeians in the dust with the release of the xbone and ps4 and built myself a gaming PC instead of wasting my time and money on a new console. And i just finished my 2 year AAS at LoneStar College here in Houston majoring in Technology and Network Administration (damn near every IT company has my resume) and i hope to work for a solid company soon!

Now my love of electronics and technology has brought me to the problems I am facing with this protank 2! I decided last week to hit up the local Vapor shop down the street and my impatience and his convenience compelled me to buy 10ft of 26 gauge Kanthal, since he had some extra lying around. I had done tons of research before I decided to give coil rebuilding a chance, and i feel that i can manage it well... ive watched RipTrippers videos on coils and micro coils n such and i went ahead and made a couple.

Now heres the damn problem! every time i put one of these new coils in, it wont fire up! I know i have done it properly because i have put the original Kanger coil back in about 4 times now and it still works fine. On this X6 battery the button will flash a few times red when it doesent have a propper connection or ground is what im guessing. Now i know this is some thick wire for a protank coil, but ive done them to what looks flawlessly for verticle and horizontal micro and standard coils. For some reason i just cant get them to fire up! but the original coil fires up just fine even though ive re installed in about 4 times now. So any help or thoughts about that would be awesome because i cant find much about this type of problem on this style atomizer, only on the big rebuilds.

Also as a side note I am going to order some 30 gauge Kanthal tonight along with a new phone case for my note 4... but prime takes 2 whole days!!!!! ha!.. the impatience will kill me if i cant get these fat ... coils to work.

Anyways ill check back later, bout to have some dinner with the wifey and watch some Game of Thrones!

I ran into something maybe similar last week. I was playing with rebuilding Protank coils with 28g Kanthal, and using a Vision Spinner 2. I built 1.2Ohm coils easy enough, and they vaped 'OK', but that's really pushing the amp limits of the battery. Unfortunately, anything else higher than that wasn't firing... or so I thought.

Turned out I just wasn't waiting long enough. With that much wire, it took 7-10 seconds before I'd see the coils start to glow when dry-firing... just long enough to trigger the auto-cut off.

So... depending on your mod and resistance, maybe something like that is going on?

Hey there. How is the weather down in southern Texas? Cold up here in the panhandle. I also just built a gaming box using the new x99 chip-set. Havent found anything to bog it down yet. Congrats on getting away from the analogs. I have been analog free for a little over a month. Haven't gotten into rebuildables yet as waiting on them to arrive. Did you get an ohm reader? If not get one of those as well it will help with finding out if you shorted something out or not before you put it on your mod.

If you have a 4.2 volt battery and are trying to fire a 1 ohm coil you'll be drawing 4.2 amps from the battery and feeding the coil 17.62 watts of power.

If the max amp draw for that battery is only 2 or 3 amps it won't have the juice to fire it.
Most builders use high drain batteries 20-30 amp.

What is the amp limit for your battery?
What's the resistance of your coil?
Are you using an ohmmeter?
Cheers.

I finally broke away from the game of thrones for a sec, and thanks for all the responses! Unfortunately the x6 battery doesn't have much information about anything other than the bat size and the 3 voltages you can set as stated above. I did not think about the ohms being too low for it to fire either... I have a multimeter that read 1.2 for 2 of the coils I built and I think 0.9 for one other one.. though I am not positive what they were.. it's been a while lol. That may be the problem I think. The stock coil that came with the pt2 is reading at 2.2 so I guess I need to make a larger verticle coil and see if it will fit with this 26 gauge kanthal. I was shooting for 1.8 ish. I'm pretty sure longer more wraps = higher resistance/ohms... still have the show on the brain so I may be backwards though lol.

Also the weather is nice down here in Houston! Was raining most of today but it was in the 60s so that much better than the 20s up there in the pan handle lol!

I'll check back before bed and tomorrow after work I'll have more time to see if I can get this thing firing up!

Thanks again
