Hello everyone! This is my first post and I need your recommendations. Fairly new to vaping, quit analogs a month ago today. Started out with Ego-T 900 mah. Quickly figured out I don't like the tank system because of muted flavors, slow wicking, maintainence, etc. Was using 900 mah battery with SmokTec mega dual coil cartomizer (great cartos btw). Decided to give 3.7v box mod from mad vapes a try. I love love love the way the box mod feels as opposed to the stick battery. Using ultrafire 14500's in box mod and it seems like they die very quickly vs the ego battery. What's your recommendation for either a different box mod or longer lasting batteries? I ordered some trustfire 14500's tonight just in case it is a battery issue. Also, when the battery is getting low it makes the flavor of the juice taste kinda oily, is this normal?? Thanks in advance for your help.

I was going to recommend the Madvapes box mod. I've got one (that I broke) and the batteries would last me at least 6 hours when I'm not at work and vaping fairly heavily (taking a drag every couple of minutes). I've also got a SB that's running 2400/3000mah 18650 batteries and have no complaints about the 14500s. For what they are, they last a long time IMO. I have never used an Ego and have no idea how long the batteries last in them.

My 14500s are Trustfires and the 18650s are Trustfire and Ultrafire

One 14500 is not going to last longer in one box mod than another. Dual coil cartos use a lot of charge. If you want longer battery life, you could try just bottom coil cartos or some other kind of cartos that are higher ohms than 1.5 or 1.7 or whatever your dual coils are.

To get really long battery life in a mode, I think you have to go with bigger tube modes.

this is what James said "Actually the idea behind the "evercool" type mod is that it uses a Switching regulator instead of a Linear. I could get technical but it's easier to put it like this: A linear regulator takes all of the current the batteries offer and anything it doesn't send to the atomizer it dissipates as heat, this makes the mod hot to the touch and burns battery life. Evercool instead uses a Switching regulator that it takes smaller chunks of energy and only provides the necessary current, saving battery life and not creating heat.

So Evercool style mods don't get hot(near the chip) and they have a longer battery life as they are a lot more efficient."

Going back to the OP, 3.7 volt mods with questionable Ultrafire 14500 cells (this was a single 14500, right?) will wimp out pretty quickly with 1.5 to 1.7 ohm cartos. A bigger cell, or parallel cells would do better.
And yes, the switching regulator is more efficient than a linear regulator but not as efficient as a straight though, properly constructed 3.7 volt mod.

A cheap 3.7 volt, single 14500 box mod would be about equal to a 650mah eGo n vaping capability. But it won't outlast a 900mah eGo. Might hit harder at first but the 900mah rating of the eGo is pretty accurate. Most 14500 cells are over rated. I have used the 650 eGo, 14500 single cell mod, 900 eGo, , 18650 single cell mod
and that is the order of how they perform also.
Take the steel shell off and the end caps and it's a pretty small cell :)

If you want a great box mod then check out Ken's Box Mods. There's a pic of one in my signature. I takes 2 14500 batts and lasts all day and it's vv and the vari-cool does the same thing as the evercool. He also has a bigger box mod called the VV Big Daddy vari-cool. I love my VVBB. It's my favorite mod. His custom service is excellent also. His mods don't come with the flashy skin though. :p

Course you could have gotten on the list for a Denali from Mamu. With two 18650's and a T/6 switching reg, it should go 3-4 days or more on a charge.

Dual coil's will drain any battery faster regardless of the battery. However, if you like the flat feel and look of a box mod and want about 12 hours on a charge using them, then the best model would be the power regulated Darwin. I get 21+ hours of heavy vaping on the Darwin with regular resistence attys. With dual coils I get around 12 hours on a charge:

Power regulated (VV really variable wattage) Darwin: Nhaler

Note: however, it is one of the top models on the market and is not inexpensive.
