I couldn't tell you where the nearest dollar store is, to be honest. I can't name one in the county! I ordered from Amazon over the weekend and decided to wait it out -- I needed a couple other things and just made a single order of it. I can be patient... sometimes. :)

In Cary? Really? Wow. There's one on every corner here in Charlotte.

Patience is good. Usually not a real prevalent characteristic of us vapers though. ;)

Well... I'm pretty irritated.

That lovely 800-pack of cotton rounds? Contains Aloe and Vitamin E. F*!&$*&!$^*1@^$?%!

It's my own fault that I missed it. At least I can find other ways to use these... I hope.

But the yarn is here, and so is the silver wire. So I'll just pick some up locally, since I do not feel like waiting any longer.

Dang.

I got mine at walmart for a couple dollars. There's got to be a walmart near you!

There's one in town, but too far of a drive. I actually discovered 2 "dollar stores" in the town, the closer of the two being a dollar general. And the CVS is about a mile from my house. Decisions, decisions...

Do the Dollar General run. Even if it's a few miles further than CVS. You'll still save money.

And who knows, ya might even find some other neat stuff in there. Like a solar powered hula girl for your dash board. Gotta love the Dollar store. :)

Ok, here is my second one, ready to start soaking. The one I was working on yesterday was a disaster. Got it all together, and the coil legs were too short, as well as the wick. So did this one today. It's a 32 gage Kanthal, 5 wrap, 3.1Ω coil. I wrapped the coil around a 3/32 drill bit shank. The wick is #4 cotton yarn. I just hope it works good when I try to vape it.

That's a pretty wick and coil, oplholik!!

The vaping Gods apparently don't want me making a cotton round wick. So after the arrival of my 800 unvapable cotton rounds today, I got off work and went to Dollar General. I knew what street it was off of, so I turned on the street and started looking. Drove for a bit then turned around, I knew I'd passed it. Turns out I'd gone a couple miles out of my way. Rolled into the place, finally found the rounds, picked up a couple other things so I wasn't charging $2.62 to my credit card. Swipe, accept charges. Invalid card type.

Doh! Dollar General doesn't take AmEx!!!

Jump back in the car, head home, grab my Mastercard, drive back, the guy kept the stuff for me and finally, FINALLY(!) have cotton rounds.

I have yarn on the boil now. Rounds are next. Going to play around with other wicking material soon. It's a boil-fest in my house right now!

Some good did come of all this... The aloe+vitamin e rounds feel fantastic on my face!! So soft.

And the cashier guy at the dollar general was a cute young lil thing. Mmmm eye candy. How fast do you think I can vape through 160 cotton rounds???

TO THE DRUNKER!

Thanks Adeline. I want to get some of those rounds to try. Did I see back a few pages, how to cut these and what size to cut? The yarn can be a pain to mess with.

Yeah somewhere in there. Mack cuts the entire thing in a spiral and then cuts his wick length from the one very long string that leaves you. There's even a picture that explains it better than words... Hmmm.. was that in the cotton thread?

I just cut mine straight across the round in thin slivers. Then I twist it and twist it. I haven't been able to wrap my coil, install it and then thread the cotton through the coil. I've had to lay my cotton sliver next to something (straightened paper clip will do) and then wrap my coil around it. It's a bit of a delicate procedure because when I'm threading the cotton legs down into the wick holes, it's very easy to shread the cotton. Only wrapping one wick and then using feeder wicks is a lot easier than trying to wrap two wicks and then try to feed all four of them through the wick holes. I'm going to have to order some of the vulcan grommets because my white grommet on the drunker won't last many more rebuilds.

JD says they will fit fine in the drunker in place of the bottom grommet :D I've been playing around with my rba's that use ss mesh and I'm finding that even though the draw on the mesh rebuildables is smoother, the flavor that the drunker gives with the cotton wicks is just as good as the SS mesh. BTW.. I'm really loving my peanutbutter flavor I got from WL. I mix it with a little cookie and bavarian cream and a couple drops of sweetener, it's all I've been vaping for the last week. I wish WL would carry the cookie flavor. I think I'll email them and ask if they can get some.

....But the yarn is here, and so is the silver wire. ......

I'm anxious to see how the nr wire works out for you. The drunker does have some long legs on it but I'm wondering if that's part of it's charm. Ceramic holds heat really well plus the air coming thru the center pin is being heated slightly, but I'm sure these are small amounts. I'm anxious to see how much change you have, and if it's in the right direction.

Because there's a lip at the bottom of the shaft where the grommet sets and the exit holes in the ceramic are offset, the negative wire probably first makes contact at the very bottom of that shaft, where the grommet holds it against that lip. That makes for a pretty long run of wire.

Fold a little piece of tinfoil on the end and spin it between thumb and finger as you thread it through feed holes and coil.

It takes a little time, but I like to spin the wick real tight as a first step. Yeal, it will just unwind when you turn it loose, but I think it makes it hold together better for spinning it from the tinfoil as you install it.

Try this. Take the allen key that came with your dud, loop about an inch of the wick around the short section right where it turns and holding your fold with thumb and finger, spin the allen key between thumb and finger of the other hand. It's time consuming but worth it imo, but your voltage may vary lol.

I got my two drunkers and my kanthal 34 gauge wire. I'm still trying to understand what cotton to use. Lol. I saw a YouTube some guy bought a cotton roll from CVS and thought I might try that. Is that okay to use? I also saw a video of using cotton gauze. I'm not quite sure what a cotton round is. Is it the small pads that are round and flat? I saw those at the grocery store but they didn't look like they would make a wick. hmm... I have been vaping my drunker on the coil that came with it for now. Lol. It is a bit airy but I'm thinking once I get brave enough to make a different coil, maybe it will have a tighter draw.

Whatever cotton you use, boil it first.

Cotton balls are good (small pieces, roll it long and thin).
Cotton rounds are those flat cotton things (usually in the makeup aisle). Cut thin pieces, roll it like cotton balls.
Cotton yarn is good.
I've used cotton gauze (I didn't like it in the drunker, it worked ok in my A7). Make sure it doesn't have any anti-bacterial or antiseptic stuff on it.
Cheese cloth also works very well, but it needs a really long soak before you can fire it up.

Whatever you choose, make sure it's 100% cotton. And boil it! I like to boil it for 15-20 mins, change the water, boil again, maybe repeat once more.
