Exactly. There are a lot less highways out West. Partly due to a lot less people, partly because they can't get through the mountains.
Not only that but you would lose more than you gain. Winding roads are so interesting, straight roads...yawn.
On the way back between Barstow and Stateline there is the Baker Grade. It is a 30 mile long 8% grade. It kills cars in the summer. By the time semi's get to the top'some are going 5-10 mph. It makes you tired just driving up it.
The only other routes are hundreds of miles longer. There is a back way to get to LA that is only a little bit longer but not to Northern California. On Holiday weekends the traffic from here to LA can be so bad that the trip takes 10 hours. Needless to say I never go on thoae days.
I love winding roads. My car makes them really fun. I want to do the suspension on it to make it even better.

Those look yummy. I love green Tabasco. Have you tried Trader Joes Green Dragon sauce? I really like that one.Found these in the store, haven't had them in forever. They are awesome!
I like how the green Tabasco is more flavor than heat. I will keep an eye out for the dragon sauce. The closest trader joes is 26 miles away. I might look for it online.
I wondered about this stuff. I had an older Maxima at one time that needed this done. Isn't there a fluid you can use?
