Congrats! It's not a pipe bomb. I used tube mechs for years. I don't anymore because I find them inconvenient. If you respect it and follow proper safety procedures you will be fine. Show me a pic of it when you get it. You'll need metal polish if you don't have some already and grease. I can help you learn disassembly and maintenance if you need. It is usually very easy with new mods.
Brasso is good. Clean the contacts on the Pulse with it too. I have the conoisseur polishing cloths from Walmart I use regularly (well not lately since I haven't been using my mechs). I just use a very thin coat of axle grease. Some people use conductive grease like the kind you put on car batteries.I have some Brasso, what grease? Yes, teach me the ways of not blowing my face off...

Mechanicals all seem to be faux hybrids lately. The one you hot looks like one as well. You have to pat attention to the protruding pin on the atty. It should stick out well beyond the outer sleeve. Make sure the top of the battery is not dented. If it is do not use it in a fauxbrid mod. Condition of the battery wraps is very important if the tube is bare metal on the inside. I am going to post some infograpics. I love me some infographics.
The grease is on the threads. None is!needed on the contacts. I use 25R Samsung batteries in my mechanical mods and they seem fine. They are a teeny bit shorter than my other batteries and I can tighten it all down.flush without too much pressure on the battery. Just find Mooch's favorite batteries and use them.
Those are much better than 25Rs. Of course you can use them.So no using my Sony VTC5A? I love my Sonysokay glad no grease on the contacts I was miss reading that I was sitting here thinking about what a mess that would be and how dangerous

You want a tiny bit of grease. I will find some conductive greaase if you like.
Be aware of any hot spots or a hot button. Those indicate a problem. Faux hybrids are dicey because of the direct connection. 99% of the time when they meltdown it is the connection at the atty. The pin and sleeve can never be flush with each other. This will cause a dead short. A dead short is the worst case scenario. The battery will vent quickly. The mod getting unusually hot is a sign that something is wrong.

Nope. You will feel it Hot buttons and threads are pretty unmistakeable. I have had a couple close calls. I was there for the old days when safety was an afterthought. New mech mods are quite a bit safer than the old ones.So mod in one hand and this in the other https://tinyurl.com/ybrwb5yc
