I work for an Insurance Company, the only thing that is in the policy language is the use of tobacco. Since you are not smoking tobacco anymore your are a non-smoker and should get the appropriate rate. Granted I am an adjuster, but I am going to my agents office in the morning and I will post thier reply. I do not have to tell them anything other than I am not a tobacco user any longer. If I'm not mistaken there may be a 6 month tobacco free clause or something.

I think that insurance companies do a carbon monoxide test to see if you are a smoker or a non smoker. As long as you are not smoking analogs, the test will come up with a very low count similar to a non smoker. I could be wrong, but I think this is the only way that anyone can detect if you are a smoker or not. So, I think you are safe to say that you are a non smoker.

Actually, I went through this a year ago with my insurance company. At the time I had quit smoking cigs and was using nicotine losenges. The policy read tobacco user but the insurance required a mouth swab that detected nicotine. I quit using the losenges for about 36 hours before the test but still came up positive for nicotine. I'd imagine a mouth swab from someone who vapes would test positive for nicotine. Each insurance co. may be different though.

They don't test for smoking, they test for nicotine.

I think a blood test will find it if you've had it in the last 5 days; a mouth swab will go back for weeks.

Vaping e-juice with nicotine will equal smoking as far as they are concerned, as the test doesn't test for tobacco, but cotinine, a nicotine metabolite product. I just posted a thread asking about how to get on 0mg to pass tests at my work because no matter how much you say or prove you don't use tobacco, the test all comes down to nicotine, and that's the only tool in their toolbox. Patches, nicotine gum, vaping, snus, whatever... if it's got nic in it, and it gets in your body- They will classify you as a smoker. Period.
