I've been vaping about a month now and absolutely love it. When I want a reg cig I have one. I decided that telling myself I couldn't was a bad idea. This way I have free choice. I gotta tell you tho, they taste horrible.

I think there is something else in a reg cig that is addictive also. I know it's not nicotine I'm craving. Maybe it's old habit, old friend?

I do know that going from 2.5 pks a day to 3 or 4 is a huge improvement! Don't beat yourself up. Do what comes natural and it will all work out.

The Nic levels made a difference for me in the evenings, but I believe the biggest thing was adjusting the rituals of smoking. I never smoked analogs in the house, but I do vape at my desk now. And the ritual of smoking had a beginning and an end and vaping does not.

Persistence and patience over all pays off, I quit analogs in less that 5 days, but that was me. My biggy was getting in the car to drive. vaping did not seem to do it for me when I got in the car. I believe that was just psychological.

Congrats.

As well as smoking, I've worked really hard for the last couple of years trying to lose weight. Gone from 320-245 and the biggest impact was when I realized that the word cheat was not good to keep in my vocabulary. It just induces guilt and shame whenever I use it.

The idea is that you think of what you would have been doing before you started the eCigs and realize how much better your life is now, and how much better it will be if you keep it up. So what, you have a cigarette or two, it's better than having 20. Even at 2 a day, that is a 90% decrease in tar and other pollutants, that is a huge accomplishment.

Keep it up, I know that it will take a long time for me to not smoke when I drink and that's ok, it's better than feeling like crap every day of the week.

I've been tobacco free for 3 months. Had been thinking I really really really wanted a real cigarette. Was missing it like crazy but refused to give in to my urges.

Sitting on patio drinking beer with hubby about 4 weeks ago and my battery went dead. Got up, opened a new pack of my regular cigs, lit up and took a drag. I thought I was going to die. I thought I was going to get sick. I thought I was going to pass out. I started coughing and gagging. Took another drag and it was WORSE than the first drag!

I knew then that I was finished with tobacco cigs forever. I will never go back to them. I no longer have that urge or thoughts about wanting a regular cigarette. Those two drags were so horrible I can honestly say "I have taken the cure" and for me, the cure is my e-cigs.

No, I am not kidding myself. I know I have traded addictions. But I am very happy with my decision to go from regular cigs to e-cigs. I can actually see the day when I will be using an e-cig without any nicotine in my juice.

Thanks for letting me share my story on your thread.
Wishing you ALL the best!

sooo, update!

Upped my nic and am feeling much better. I've been allowing myself to have a cig or two when when I really crave, and I've been fine.

Thanks so much for the advice and support. You guys are awesome!

Congrats! I just started vaping a little over a week ago. I still smoked analogs for most of that time. I went from 10 to 7 to 5 to 4 to 3 (3 was yesterday). I didn't have any cutting down schedule or anything like that. It just kind of happened. It was funny, but as the week went on, I found I just didn't like the taste of cigarettes. This was a bit weird to me as I have been smoking the same brand for 32 years and always liked them (Camel Lights or Camel Turkish Silver). Today was the first day that I went without a cigarette.

Today, the only time I found myself wanting an analog was after meals. When I found myself wanting one, I reminded myself that I didn't like the way they tasted, fired up my amaretto flavored juice and all was well.

Have your analogs until YOU decide you don't want or like them anymore. Don't worry about quitting. That'll come on its own when you are ready. :)

the only reason i started ecigs and never (haven't yet anyway) smoked an analog again was simply because i didn't have any and refused to buy anymore. i smoked the last cig out of my carton and switched over to ecig. first night was hell. i was ready to set up and IV to main line the juice into my veins for the nicotine. but i got thru it. upped my nic level in the juice and don't even think about smoking an analog now.
good luck and welcome to our group

I am about three weeks into my vape habit and I am at about half of my analog use. (was 30-40 a day, 33 years, now about 15-18) I do intend to ditch them, but the nic in the vape seems to be only part of what I am hooked on with the analogs. Once I get my mixing stuff I will try a high nic batch.

For now the worst times are the old standards; First thing in the morning, after meals, happy hour, and after whoopie with the GF.

Last week and last night I went back to the full dose of analogs and my body was not pleased. Equipment issues had me on analogs for two days last week and my lungs hated going back to 30-40 a day. The same thing happened last night out at the bar when I downed a pack of the old fire & leaf cigs with my beers.

What it has replaced are a lot of those 'not thinking' cigs that I used to smoke. You know, when the computer has you waiting, and without thinking, you light one up. The vape has worked great for that.

I also ran out of analogs yesterday for almost 5 hours before getting more, I almost missed the gas station by closing time. That is new. It used to be that I wouldn't even consider not having 30-40 in stock for the night. Current count.. 11 in stock.

Slow but sure, my vape is the cure! :smokie:

Good stuff -- I've just gone over a full day without analogs. Got my new 24 mg juice in yesterday, loaded some fresh cartridges, and today was good (one logistics error -- the last carto in hand, for the drive home, was mint julep -- NOT the right thing for that heavy drag ride-home vape :) )

What with equipment issues and supply issues I haven't been able to completely replace analogs and I'm really not concerned. I know I will make the switch.

I absolutely agree with those who have said that the idea of "cheating" is not good. It's so negative - and implies that you somehow have failed and should feel bad. How about feeling good about all the cigs you didn't smoke instead?

Glad to hear upping the juice helps. I'll keep that in mind!

Keep smiling,

Karen

What an inspirational group. I am done with tobacco and I know that for a fact. Someone here said it best. You will be done with tobacco when you are ready. You'll know when that is. It is not like you are doing something illegal if you smoke a cigarette! From everything I read, it is different for everyone.

I had tried to quit smoking several times. I failed miserably. I am on a very limited budget. My e-cig was an investment for me. I was committed to ending tobacco and making this work for me. I am so glad I switched to e-cigs.

From what I understand, ecigarettes curb an appetite for analogs. This has def been the case for me. I have not seen any material that guarantees you will quit smoking analogs by switching to PV's.
I entered into this wonderful culture by accident and must say, I love vaping. However, I still have about 5-8 analogs a day (down from 2 packs), and don't feel any guilt whatsoever.
I have never seen vaping touted, at least on this site, as a quit smoking alternative.
Cheers.

I'm kind of mixed on the idea of "not trying to quit" analogs and just letting it happen- I'm sure it works for some but it didn't for me. I subscribe to mind over matter in as much as you have to truly want to stop, and you have to get past some tough urges to light up. I agree completely that you shouldn't beat yourself up if you slip, but think of it as slipping on skates or falling off a bike (or making a mistake at whatever you like to do) - not cheating- ... try and think about how you might do something to get past the same urge the next time you have it, so you don't slip again ... maybe it's upping the nic, changing the juice you're using or getting up and going for a walk- only you will be able to figure it out... what's most important is that you keep trying to get past the urges - one at a time.

I know some folks claim that they just smoked analogs less and less over time till they no longer wanted them- maybe that will work for you, but it didn't for me. I found myself smoking more plus vaping more with that approach. Whatever was in the cigarettes had me craving analogs when I vaped- so I'd get an urge, then vape and then light up 5 minutes later....

Why do they put 3999 other chemicals in cigarettes? To keep you addicted. It's not discussed much here as we tend to focus on what's in our juice or what device we're holding as opposed to what's missing, but there are a lot of other chemicals beyond the nic in analogs that drive those urges. For some of us the urges/addiction are stronger than others. I'm now 6 weeks without an analog - weeks more than I've gone in 35+ years.

While I originally thought vaping was an acceptable alternative, it took work to give up the analogs- I went back and forth for several months, never lasting more than a few days before I allowed some excuse to send me to the store for a pack or bum a smoke from a neighbor.

For me, I had do decide and commit to myself that I would do everything I could to never have another cigarette- ever. And even with constant vaping, I still had to deal with strong urges to light up...

Beyond replacing analogs with e-cigs, what helped me the most this time around was getting to better/more powerful devices than the standard 510, and going for a series of acupuncture treatments (something a friend had suggested a couple of years back- (I laughed at the time). While it's not a silver bullet, it helped reduce the intensity and duration of the urges. Also, something about the acupuncture made the cigarettes taste metalic... Scheduling the treatments allowed me to set small incremental goals for myself ... just make it to the next session.... I slipped once a day after the first treatment - bought and smoked a pack over a 3 day period - but I stuck with it... after 3 sessions I started moving the sessions further apart - had my last treatment today and the thought of lighting up is now nauseating.

Keep trying
Best wishes
-Jim

Hawaii! Yay haha
When I first got into e-cigs, the first juice I ordered was a Marlboro clone from DIY Flavor Shack, it's 48mg nicotine, which is very very strong. 2 puffs of that and I got light-headed, just like smoking a real marlboro. But, it doesn't really taste like an analog, and the throat hit, while strong, wasn't exactly the same.

Another juice i ordered was a dark beer flavor from Totally Wicked, called Extra Stout - 36mg nicotine. They use (from what I read) very clean, pharmaceutical-grade nicotine and PG liquid. The throat hit can be PAINFUL! In a good way. It's the strongest throat hit I've experienced yet of any e-juice, and it's not limited to their Extra Stout flavor. I have a couple others, and they all offer that much needed throat sore!

Then finally - and this is the good stuff - I got some tobacco flavors from Alien Visions E-Juice. This stuff really, really tastes tobacco, it's a very unique flavor that no other vendor has - I suspect it's all custom-made. At 24mg strength, the throat hit is comfortable, and the taste... really, really satisfies!

In the end, between these 3 vendors' juices, I can honestly say that the Marlboro reds I used to smoke are weak-tasting and the throat hit doesn't compare. I tried a Marlboro one night and it didn't do anything for me, so I picked up my e-cig and never looked back :D

Hang in there, and best wishes!

I know that the problem with analogs for many people (myself included) was the actual physical act of smoking; i.e. holding the cigarette, the oral fixation, etc. I chose my first model (Joye 510) specifically because it looks and feels like a normal analog. Granted I've got my eGo coming now, but the 510s will stay as my at-work vape. Something to consider.

Best of luck!
