Hello all,

I've been on analogs for 15 years or so, since I was a teenager, and I've never managed to quit for any meaningful period of time. This is my second attempt at switching to e-cigs - I tried it back in early 2010 when vaping was first entering the mainstream and I just couldn't handle it, the throat hit drove me crazy and I gave it up.

Recently several of my friends have switched to vaping and I began researching it and decided to give it another go. Thought maybe the problem was the 100% PG cartos the last time around so I got some eGo batteries and some clearos, ordered some 70/30 juices from deej and find - I've got the exact same problem. Literally it feels exactly the same (as memory serves, anyway) as using the old Blu first gen prefilled cartomizers.

Right now I'm using 70PG/30VG at 8mg nic (suggested lower nic level by some friends based on my past experience) and I CANNOT vape it. I've tried both the 'straight draw' and the 'pull then inhale' method and every single time it makes me cough, like some sort of evil vapor gremlin crawled into the back of my throat and started kicking me repeatedly. I get this really severe tingle/seizing type feeling and there's no way around it. I saw a lot of people say the insane TH is caused by nic level, but 8mg should be next to nothing shouldn't it?

Is this PG intolerance? I've gone through the forums and found suggestions on how to cut the fluid using glycerin from wal-mart and I'm going to try that, but was wondering if anybody had any other suggestions? deej liquid tastes great and I really think I could make the switch if I found a way to keep it from killing my throat.

Thanks in advance for any insight.

Hi feldegast
The throat hit is a complely a normal thing for some to most people. I hear people talking on that all the time, lucky thing is I never expirenced this. Unfortunatly my g/f did, for about a month or more. This will soon go away for you as well. You thing VG has TH, PG has loads more, actually this is what PG is know for is the TH. The more nic you have in there as well plays a huge roll in this TH factor. Be sure that you are aware that when and if you dilute your juice that the flavor will dilute as well. Yes 8mg nic is very low. I use 24mg now, I started out with 36mg just B/C I wanted to catch a nic buzz at first to what the fuss was all about. Needless to say I went down in nic level real quick.
The best advice I can give you is to just stick with. It might seem like to much TH at first but you will get used to it I'm sure of it
Hope this helps and if you have any other questions or concerns be so kind and post I'm sure one of can answer it.
Oh yeah welcome to ECF and congratulations

I can't vape without throat hit.......

Are you SURE you are a smoker?

Last I checked I was. Did the step down from Reds to Mediums to Lights.

This isn't even what I'd call throat hit, I definitely want/need to 'feel' it when I'm using an e-cig, this is a severe reaction in my throat that feels worse than smoking a non-filtered lucky strike I stole from my grandfather when I was a kid. It kicks like a donkey and I can't keep from coughing. It's wicked bad.

I know the PG and the nic level is what causes the throat hit, which is why I was asking about PG intolerance. Hoping that cutting the PG by adding more VG will help, but haven't had a chance to go pick up any yet.

Was just wondering if anybody had any other suggestions.

Hi T41CK,

Yeah I know diluting it will kill the flavor, I'm just hoping to figure out something that works for me without the severe kick so I can modify the mixes I'm buying.

I know PG and nic is what causes the TH, was hoping cutting the PG with added VG would help some or if there were any other recommendations for people.

I've also read here that you get nicotine through the lining in your mouth as well as lungs, so when the TH is too harsh for me on a particular juice and I am antsy for nicotine, I am just holding the vape in my mouth and then exhaling. Seems to be working for me because the edginess goes away.

HiFeldegast, I am pretty new at this vaping - just started on Oct 30 this year. I started with a cigarette like ecig that was pretty low on nic and with those I did not experience very much in the way of TH. However, when I got my eGo Twist and some 18mg juice - I was able to give up the last few cigarettes I was smoking.

However, for the first few days it did feel like the vapor was kind of burning my throat. I figured it was the strength of the nic and possibly that it was 60PG/40VG. I basically had to dial the Twist down to the lowest 3.2 setting in order to vape. The new ejuice I ordered at 15mg nic and I got both 60VG/40PG and some that was all VG - this definitely made a difference.

However, I also found now that I have been vaping for 3 weeks with the eGo twist - that I can now tolerate the original ejuice - and at times find that it actually works the best if I am having thoughts about smoking a cigarette. So it might be worth it for you to try some juice that is mostly VG - at least to see if it helps with the feeling you are getting.

I get almost 100% vg juices. It limits what I am able to vape with but at least I can vape. Bought pg liquid and just couldn't stand the pain. Order some ecopure through Intellicig. It's a little spendy and no flavor but it will let you know if pure vg will work for you. When I vape ecopure I just chew my favorite gum and it seems like its flavored.

Hi Leal,

What do you vape with? I know because of the thickness of VG it can be problematic depending on your setup.

Yeah you gotta get some high nicotine liquid maybe try n get 36mg and see how you get on. The harsh throat is from the propylene glycol (PG). See if you can get your hands on some 100% vegetable glycerine at 36mg. You can just add a few drops of distilled water to it to make it flow. Just 6 or 7 drops per ml is enough. Stay away from the Propylene glycol !.
