Okay, this is my first "serious" contribution to ECF... the Half-Tooth Teabag mod... or call it whatever you like, lol. It started with the normal teabag mod, which I found to be nice in that it eliminated Fluval stray fiber burning and sticking, which is great... BUT... it didn't give me any more room for more juice and it wicked only slightly better (IMO) than the Fluval... sooo... I started thinking... and this is what I came up with...

The Half-Tooth Teabag Mod

Advantages: This mod gives you substantially more room for juice, extending the life of your cartridges (about 24 drops of JC with a new teabag), and seems to have, to some degree, somewhat of a "straw mod" effect... it flows pretty nice, and when it's dry, it's pretty much out of juice.

Disadvantages: Cutting too much off can flood your atomizer, theoretically, though it hasn't happened to me yet...

Step 1. This whole thing starts with a standard teabag mod... if you've not seen the teabag mod, start with a Lipton Pyramid teabag (the flavor of tea doesn't matter)... there are other instructions on this forum on this (which were very, very good), so seek them out for more detail... this will be the concise version of the teabag mod, just to get you started. Here's our teabag, ready to use. Just make sure you don't have any hairs (like in the picture, YUCK!!) or they'll wind up in your filler ... you'll see our friend the cat hair here up until the end... and I wasn't reshooting this, lol. Oh well:

Step 2. Roll the teabag up about half-way sort of tight, more of a repeated folding:

rolled_tight.jpg

Step 3: Then, roll progressively more loosely... when you're done, it should be fairly uniform spacing between concentric layers, and should be about the width of the cartridge:

finished_rolling.jpg

Step 4: Once rolled up, fold evenly in half:

Step 5: Insert into cartridge FULLY (until it reaches the bottom) and trim as closely to the edge of the cartridge as possible:

trimming.jpg

Result of Tea-Bag Mod: You're probably already familiar with this part of the mod.. the traditional tea-bag mod, and it looks like this:

fits_in_cart.jpg

Step 6: Now here's where it gets interesting... and differs from the traditional tea-bag mod... starting with the folded (creased) end of the folded tea-bag, make a single cut up into the teabag, cutting about 50% up from the bottom (folded end) of the teabag:

cut_middle.jpg

Step 7: Once you're half-cut up the middle of the teabag, pull the uncut end towards you to begin cutting towards the outside... just be sure to use cleaner scissors... you never know how dirty your scissors are until examined under macro photography, lol!!!

angle_cut.jpg

The Result: Here's the teabag in the shape of a HALF TOOTH... hence the name:

final_bag.jpg

Step 8: Insert the narrow end of the teabag filler into the cartridge, and push in gently until it won't go any further, and fill with juice in the normal fashion. Once done, it will look, on the outside, just like the teabag mod:

Hope this gives someone some extra vaping pleasure... let me know what you think!!

I am using something very similar. I too thing that PTB is a great material especially the Lipton brand. I am doing almost everything the same except im not cutting off the excess from the top. I fold it in. Doing this has greatly decreased the risk of flooding my atty. I love what you have done, great pictures and instructions. It would mean alot to me if you can take a look at this...

and tell me what your thoughts are. Make sure you see the video on the second page, not the first.

Checked out your thread, and the videos... very nice work, rhoneil... in fact, your plug mod inspired me to make a new type of plug mod that in theory would give max juice, refill super easy, use almost no teabag material (by comparison) and should vape really well... just thought of it really. It will involve a trip to Home Depot (or maybe WalMart)... and may be difficult for people to build, but it may work so well it may be worth it... I'll post it if it works.

cool, i hope you looked at the folded, rolled and frayed plug mod. the "R" plug works but i think that the FRF works much better especially when its double folded.

looking forward to see what you come up with.

I got a little lost at the cutting part. You cut up 50% in the middle or on the side?

Make a slanted cut from the center of the folded end. The idea is to remove part of the bag that's up inside the cartridge in order to allow more room for liquid. This still leaves the end which touches the atty at the normal width.

I got a little lost at the cutting part. You cut up 50% in the middle or on the side?

You start cutting at the middle of the folded end (starting position is half way ACROSS the PTB, aiming to cut up the length of the PTB), up to about half way ALONG the PTB... so the initial cut ends right smack in the middle of the PTB. (Think of the long hand of a clock pointed at 6) THEN, when you pull the top end out and cut off to the side to remove slightly over 1/4 of the PTB.

Make a slanted cut from the center of the folded end. The idea is to remove part of the bag that's up inside the cartridge in order to allow more room for liquid. This still leaves the end which touches the atty at the normal width.

Exactly!! :D

Another great idea!! Great looking mod and pics! :)

We need to have a contest or poll! Either way the ALL vapers would be the true winners! :)

I believe Moobyghost, Grimm Green, igetcha, etc... only the some of the best video hitters can pull this off. We all benefit! :)

(WAIT! Give me time to stock up on PTB's ...Or... buy some PTB stock!!!!) ;)

Has anyone mastered the PTB mod on a 801? Im having trouble with mine. It seems there just isn't enough material maybe. I believe I'm doing it exactly like tutorials but Ive succesfully flooded one of my atty's on my first attempt and not having any better luck since. Am I not doing something right or is this just not the best material for filling an 801 cart? Any suggestions or tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Eric... just an idea... try first folding the PTB diagonally, then rolling in from corner to corner along the new "longest edge"... should create alot more breadth, and would keep the half-tooth concept with little or no cutting. Worth a try anyhow, eh?

Thanks Tony, that sounds like a good solution to my problem. I don't know why I didn't think of that. I did sucessfully use the best of both worlds mod where you first use your basic poly filling then wrap it with the PTB. This allows the poly in the middle to hold the liquid more securily but you still recieve the great wicking from the PTB. When I get home today I will experiment with your good advise and let you know how it does. Thanks

This mod is pretty awesome and cheap to do. I dig. I did make a small change from the way you folded yours, I folded mine up like a fan (found that in another thread) before doing the "half-tooth" cut. Been working like a champ since I did it yesterday in both my eCig and one of my roomies eCigs. Much more reliable wicking than with the default substrate materials, for sure.
