OHave you looked at the pics on the previous page the overall shape is a direct copy the squonk hole is in the same location the button is in the same location. Is it a carbon copy of a Tmod no but you can clearly see that it has major influence from a tmod. with all the Chinese clones it would just be nice if people could try to be more original and not copy an idea that someone spent countless hours trying to come up with in the first place.

@Suburban Something else to consider, Paul started this thread, with prototype pics, in Sept. 2014. Tom didn't drop the Tmod on us until Jan. 2015.

Yet another mod that sure looks like a copy of a Tmod.

Utter nonsense. Completely different mods. I'm guessing you think that because it is metal and rounded rather than rectangular that Tbev invented that shape? Or because you happened to find this thread long after seeing the Tmod?

[ETA] Tbev's mod has rounded corners. They don't even begin to look the same to me.[/ETA]

Ba da bing. Both before Suburban's join date.

Disclaimer: I own neither the Tmod or the MyMod

Right, and before either of those, there was pdib's dibi-sumpin. Wood, not metal, but with the same general shape, squonk hole location, and and firing button locations. That was January of 2014.

Then long before that there was the VMod with the same squonk hole and button location. I don't know exactly when it was introduced, but I can find references to it going back to at least 2011.

Just to add, I always enjoyed reading Tbev's posts before he became an ECF supplier. I /think/ I remember some of his posts soon after (or perhaps while) he machined his first mod. It was bare aluminum and was his avatar for quite a while. Very impressive work, though it doesn't pull on my purse strings. I suspect he disappeared briefly when he decided to make those mods for sale while waiting for his ECF, uh, certification?

Anyway, I hope he has great success. I know he has a following already (Surburban can testify to that :) )

Now, back to MyMod . . . @paulw2014 any prototype pics? Progress pics? Progress/trouble notes? Design changes?

haha, he never came back? No one should tell him that a Surburban is just a fat copy of a Bronco.

I'm just really hoping the COTS fuse and (future) voltage regulator module make it through to production.
They are my least favourite features lol. I'd be happy with full mech sans fuse.

Weird. I was out & about today and thought I posted something via TapaTalk. Apparently not.

Anyway, the gist of it was that I'm not all that concerned with a fuse, but the voltage regulation intrigues me. A steady voltage through the life of the battery can be a Good Thing™ - provided it is more than nominal. I haven't paid that much attention, but I suspect I would like that to be higher than 3.7V - probably more in the 3.9-4.1V range. If higher, that would be good, too.

Pure battery voltage is good, too.

Well, fellow squonkers: If you want a straight mech there are quite a few to choose from these days. What made Paul's unique to me was the COTS fuse (you could always just jump it I guess) and the idea of a regulated voltage module. I can build a kickass vape at whatvever voltage you give me, what with all the kanthal I have. If you can give me the same voltage all day then I don't have to deal with the fade of a mech. THAT's what made the concept of MyMod intriguing to me, personally. I could give a flip about looks.

i signed up pre tmods with the promise of less voltage drop than a reo

do i still need one? no
do i still want one? i'm not against it

but i agreed to buy one and i am a man of my word

Unfortunately, they're no longer available on the first page - whether that's due to the forum update or that he deleted them from imgur.com, I can't say.

The images I recall through the rest of the thread were 3D renderings rather than actual prototypes. I REALLY hope to see some sort of update soon.

@paulw2014 what's up? You're leaving us hanging. We're trying to keep this thread alive, but please reciprocate and help us to help you. Are you serious about this project? Is there a different Internet venue where you would keep your committed customers up to date? I mean, if you're dropping out for whatever reason, so be it, but let us know - some of us have our money slated to your project and could use it elsewhere if you're not as committed as we are.

Where do we you stand, Paul?

This mod is not a carbon copy of any other mod. I'm not too familiar with all the different mods out there, so if it does seem similar to others, then it's mere coincidence.

The door mechanism is highly different, and this means the inner designs are completely different. A lot of design work went into making the two-halves casing work. For example, the door has to be easily removeable but at the same time would not be forced open by the expanding bottle when squonked. The benefit of the two-halves design is that it leaves everything exposed and makes the mod very easy to clean and service by the user.

However, I do agree that all bottom feeders are similar more or less, but then again, how different can you make them? I actually tried to make the mod as different from others in the beginning (for example, by using the 10ml bottle, and trying a sliding mechanism for the doors), precisely because I didn't want to "copy" anyone. I also have a design in the works that's insanely different from anything else, and that's something I will be working on later in the summer.

I'm all for respecting other's design work and intellectual property. That's the only way to encourage innovation.

The mod is being anodized, I will post pics in a couple of days. Sorry if I left you hanging, the guys making the casing for me required me to do a design change in order to make one of the two half easier to anodize, or else they would have to make a fixture. I know I've said this many times in the past, but this time I'm dead serious, the pics will be ready very soon. It's amazing how things rarely go according to plan when developing a new product. All this experience learned will be valuable for any future projects.
