Oh p'shaw... don't let anyone rush you, it's not like your mod is going to give a surgeon the tools he needs to save someone's life RIGHT NOW!!! It'll be done when it's done. I'll wait and I'm sure others will too. If I deem it a "good thing" I'll buy it.

We can have a debate about whether copying creates or stifles innovation but I have a feeling this isn't really the right place or time. Regardless, I'd buy yours even if someone in China copies it a week out of the gate. I like the real deal.

I've patiently waited for other things before, and something worth having is well worth waiting for. Too many times, things have been released in a hurry to meet a certain market demand just to have it become an epic fail because all the "what ifs" weren't thought out. Take your time, make it right, and it's going to be great.

Don't rush and don't listen to the people alleging you are somehow stealing the work of others. Having followed the evolution of your product, it is innovative and original. Yes, all bottom feeders generally have a bottle configuration in common, but that is where it stops. your interlocking plate design is great and I am eager to see what you think of as a finished product.

I don't believe @Bimini Twist was trying to put pressure on to rush. His point was to simply provide periodic updates, regardless if any progress was made. Makes it a bit easier for those of us who are waiting to get acknowledgement that the project is still alive and we haven't been forgotten.

haha, I don't mind. I know I went into this trying to make a product that is different. It's just that after certain trials and experiments, I settled on a design that is similar in configuration with current ones (in outer appearance). Here is a pic of my first experimental design:

EuUuLLv.jpg

I initially tried to design the mod with the squonk bottle at the top, so that the user will squonk with the thumb, which is the strongest finger, and push the firing button on the side with index finger. After experimenting, I realized it wasn't as ergonomic as I envisioned and having the slanted configuration of the bottle wasn't easy to design around either, so I gave it up.

Being a first time mod builder, I decided to start with something conservative and try more wild designs later. So it's okay if some ppl thinks the current mod is similar to others. Once my second mod is ready in the future, they won't think that.

Just for clarification is that a pic of an idea that was left on the editing room floor .....right ? Such a TEASER (at first glance I thought the square space was for a board /or the voltage regulator "thing" ? .....an LCD .....seriously take your time Paul...... as I, personally have more of that than anything .......... I just hope you guys realize that if Paul is true to his word ...... the members on his list will be basically stealing the mod!

Could be fun if you 1) ever come back to it and 2) work out the problems.

Thought I should provide an update.

I think last month I showed a drawing of the design. Later, I decided to refine the housing a bit more. Most other parts are done and I'm just waiting on the housing. The housing is really the crux of the mod. The changes I made are mostly cosmetic. You see, once I decided to use a 6 ml bottle rather than the 10 ml, I thought I can minimize the housing around the sides to better suit the smaller bottle. The end result is that the sides now are perfect hemisphere shapes, as can be seen below:

I feel this improves the look of the mod and makes it even more comfortable to hold.

The housing thickness is still 3mm throughout, which is tough. But to make it even more rigid, I added some "ribs" inside. I actually consulted with professional mechanical engineers in fine tuning the design. The machining process can sometimes deform a part, especially mine with its unique geometry, so I added ribs to be safe. The mod is composed of two halves so even a slight deformation or bend is undesirable. This is especially true for "door" half since it doesn't have much material in the bottom or the top. Added rigidity or toughness never hurts.

That's what I have been doing last week. It's already being made. Again, I made two different versions with minor variations, and this time I even asked them to make them in color (anodized). You already know what bare aluminum looks like and some folks are interested in colored versions.

Pics will definitely be up later this week.

Paul does the final version have a similar pistol type grip where you use your index finger on the power button.... Like the picture you just posted? I only ask because the original had the button on top that you would use your thumb like the Reo?

The button is on top just like the original pics I posted in the beginning of this thread. I have no idea why the pic is no longer available. You can get a better idea of the device based on the pics I posted a few pages back in this thread.

The guys making the aluminum casing for me do not do anodizing in house and needs to have it anodized elsewhere. I talked to them today and ask them to provide me with some pics once they get it back, which I will post here. At this point even I have no idea how the color will look. It'll take a couple of days for it to get to my place once they ships to me, but at least by having them provide the pics we can look take a look sooner. They said they can provide the pics before the end of this week.

I'm fairly confident the prototype will work well so I have already started doing the prep work for producing the first batch. Again, I had two prototypes made with minor differences so I can pick the best attributes for production. Another reason I made two is because when it comes to mods, more is better. As we all know, you can never have enough back ups when it comes to vaping. Obviously I wouldn't have that problems once I actually start producing mods.
