I was born and raised in Corpus. I'm two years younger than Whataburger. It's in my dna.
Tell CC "hey" for me!

I've lived in Atlanta for 15 years, but have been on assignment in new Orleans for the last 23 months, I've been "home in atl" for the last two weeks soaking up family time and fly out tomorrow night for my next 16 month assignment. Hopefully this will be the last one and I can land a position in Atlanta that pays enough so I don't keep missing my children grow up....but at the end of the day Daddy pays the bills, and there are plenty of them with one in kindergarten and one in 1st grade with disabilities.

I'll say hello to CC:)

I'm sure you'll find a good job in Atlanta in that time, job search is all about networking right?

You're right.... I suck at networking, but I'm trying. It just doesn't come natural... I feel disingenuous

Ah...the bane of "get it done" folks. Networking is a skill like any other that will not come naturally. It has to be intentionally developed like any other. Pickup a few books, hire a coach or attend a class.

Tried. Doesn't feel right. Actually, feels scummy, like a politician.

Same with writing reviews of yourself. Never feels like I did more than expected (at least what I expect of myself). Not worthy of highlighting or making a big deal over.

It's all about selling yourself. Welcome to the free market.

Networking is more about developing relationships , more so than selling yourself. Develop strong enough relationships and they will sell you for you, if that makes any sense :?:

The more people you know, the better the chance one of them will will be in the right place at the right time and tell someone, "hey, I know a guy".

If your developing the relationship solely for the purpose of using them, generally people can tell that and it often has the opposite effect. If your doing it out of a genuine interest in others, the effect can be multiplied. In other words, the less you try to "network" and the more you try to just get to know people, the better off (and happier) you will be.

It also has the side effect of getting to know some genuinely interesting folks.

Just my :2c:
