Greetings esteemed forum members,

I'm an electronics hobbyist and I had this idea. A voltmeter to measure the voltage of the battery in my mod. I wanted to measure the battery voltage when I juiced up my atty and I had just what I needed in my junk drawer. A piece of perfboard, an LED panel meter module, and 2 spring loaded pins (they're called "pogo pins")

Here's what I came up with. I have since mounted this in a small project box (I'm hoping the pic expands when you click on it).

Two spring loaded pins touch the center post and either negative post. I call this device "VapeVolt" and now that its here I don't know how I ever got along without it.

The Ni-MN batteries we use are quite intolerant of over-charging or letting the battery voltage dip too low. I used to go through 4 batteries or so a night, fearful that I would let the battery voltage dip too low. Now I understand the discharge characteristics of my battery and I let the battery get down to 3.2 volts or so and then swap it out. It turns out that I'm a a 2 battery a night guy.

I tried VapeVolt when I used an old mod that I don't like, a mod I let get really dirty. A fresh battery read 2.6 volts an the atty terminals, an indication of poor connections through the switch and the threaded tube sections.

I have also satisfied myself that efest batteries are every bit as good as VTC4's.

Pogo pins and three-wire DMM panel meters can be had on ebay for just a few bucks. For that matter, the cheapest Harbor Freight DMM (Digital Multi Meter) will work just fine.

I learned a lot about the way my batteries behave as I discharge them in my mod. I would recommend that anyone who drips try something like this, either by home-brewing something, or by using a DMM.

PS to Moderators. I have no intention of selling these, either now or in the future. I'm just a hobbyist who came up with an idea.

I like op solution better, having to unscrew atty to put something else on is a pain.
Expose deck, touch to pins, super easy!
Now if we could just get a nice custom box for it, and a reliable ohm reader to quickly check resistance, I'd pay 30 for something like that! :) I know you aren't planning on making these for sale... But if someone is...

Very cool. Like this idea much better than the inline one posted above. Should be fairly simple to put in an enclosure, the only caveat being that the distance between pins isn't universal from RDA to RDA.

I thought about that too - seems like it wouldn't bee to hard to do it with wiring instead - and put it on some calipers like the battery tester below, but the contacts would have to be on the tips instead of the inside of the calipers.

I modded my own battery tester using the same meter OP did. OPs is better because I have to pull my battery out to test it :unsure:

That's the one. :D You can connect your mod to the voltage side and your atty to the resistance side, press the fire button on your mod, and learn the voltage drop, too. Wonderful tool, and not expensive.

Got my hopes up - I was hoping it was basically what we were talking about, but no dice :)
The advantage to what OP and others are talking about is something where you don't have to separate your atty from the mod to test voltage.
