 Maybe there is an intro thread somewhere all ready in the 400+ threads, I'm not looking for it! I smoked for 31 years, some days only a pack, other days more like two. I have made several attempts at quitting using patches, gum, hypnosis (what a joke) and last attempt was with Chantix.
Closest I ever came was with the Chantix. It works as advertised, really! I went about 10 days without a cig. One day I decided to bum a smoke from someone. I was soooo looking forward to that buzz, but nothing happened. I actually got a bit nauseous! I quit taking the drug immediately.
I'm a respiratory therapist at a 500+ bed hospital in central Texas. I know what smoking will eventually do to me. Most of my patients are smokers. Some have full blown COPD with less smoking years than me.
Ecigs are the only thing that has ever worked for me. These things are going to save more lives, if people will give them a try.
When I think about it the only thing I have quit is: Stinking, throwing butts all over, making a ash mess, burning holes in things, harming others and KILLING MYSELF, very slowly and painfully.
I nominate the inventors of this amazing device for the Noble Peace Prize.

Man, I only smoked for 6 years, but I definitely felt what cigarettes can do to you. I can't imagine having smoked for longer than 20 years....

Anyway, I know why you failed on the NRTs (Nicotine Replacement Therapy i.e Chantrix / Gum / Patches), it is because they are designed to fail. The FDA is not out for your well-being. In fact, they are trying to ban e-cigs, because they will end up costing Big Tobacco their whole customer base.

I have started vaping, and I am happier than ever. In fact, I like vaping more than I ever liked smoking.

I smelled a cigarette burning today and got physically nauseous.

Welcome, I put the cigarettes down the moment I picked up my e-cig and have never looked back. I smoked for 40yrs with no intention of quitting but when I discovered vaping I thought I'd give it a try. Honestly it's the only time I've ever thought of giving up cigarettes. Now I can't imagine putting the real thing up to my mouth. Don't even think about it anymore. My family can't believe I just quite analogs just like that. There's really no need for a ciggy once you start vaping. It's been an absolute miracle for me. I hope it works for you.

Welcome and congratulations, rtbob!

I'm another quitter. Smoked for 37+ years, quit the minute I tried my first vape on my Vapor King on October 16th. It's a bit surreal, actually. Like most long-time smokers, I had pretty much given up on giving up because none of the quit-smoking aids worked. I had resigned myself to the idea that I'd die clutching my smokes.

I can breathe deeply now, my smokers cough is already gone, my house and clothes (and self) don't stink anymore, I take the stairs instead of the elevator without feeling like I'm going to have a heart attack. Most importantly, I feel free: no more anxiety, worrying about when and how I will get my next smoke in a world that has become very hostile towards smokers.

It never occurred to me that I would feel so liberated. It is a wonderful feeling.
