Mercy, just google iolite. You should be able to find a site that will have some sort of video tutorial. That's what I did when I was curious about it. It's just a little too expensive for me - especially when I can get another type of mod for far cheaper. Still, I'm a gadget gal... So if the price were ever to come down - yeah - I think I would buy it. Let me know if you ever decide to take the plunge on it, I'd like to know how it works with nic juice.

Butane?? Why?
Because it runs much hotter than our ecigs do so it can vaporize more things and to run that hot it would just suck batteries dry in a short time. I think it would be a waste to use on nic juice because you don't need to heat it very much. Plus I never had a butane lighter that would work for more than a couple of weeks, 1 refill and they would mess up.

I saw a test on the Iolite. The tester complained of the carbon monocide mixed in with the flavor flavor. Heated tobacco does not taste as one would expect. Some complained of a woody taste rather than a tobacco flavor. I would rather try a hebal vaporizer with eliquid suspended in the usual medium used in ecigarettes

Check my guide and videos.

The Carbon Monoxide thing has been tested by various independents and completely debunked. The exhaust from the catalytic process is Carbon Dioxide and water vapor. Also, the herb chamber is completely sealed from the heating section and exhaust.

As for reliable use, there is a big difference between a $2 lighter and a $250 vaporizer. Oglesby & Butler also manufacture the Portasol line of gas tools so they know what they are doing.

I don't beleive most were looking at it as a replacement device for an e-cig but rather as a means to vape without batteries or for those times where charging batteries is not an option like camping or power outages.

I also don't believe they product heat hotter than the coil/bridge of an atomizer as it runs up to and maintains 190 deg C which is the average low side of temps required for herbs to vaporize.

It was also looked into for the purpose of using sheesha, as many people injoy the compound and its varieties of flavours but just don't like the set up and cleaning hassle of a hooka.

All boils down to "some like it, some don't, and some are willing to try and see for themselves".

For myself, I bought it (recently) as I'm going to attempt growing some of my own tobacco this year, and try it with that.

If you click on frogbmth's Xsmoker signature it shows many good videos as well as information on the site regarding the Iolite.

Here's another that is not as big, but also uses butane: ploom: Technology. Seems to be a lot of info on how it works there.

Wow they finally finished that device. Looks interesting. I remember when that was still in development. Notice the pods use propylene glycol.

Let's see.....furiously diggs in pocket...... hmm $39.95. Ahah.... I have $60......:D

Edit: Damn invitation only WTF!!!

That's a nice idea, but 12 of those pods it uses cost near $6, and when they only last about 10 minutes each that's just as (or more) expensive than just regular smoking!

However, I'm sure someone will find a way to refill them. I wonder if you could just substitute straight e-juice held in with some high-temp filler. A butane powered e-cig - hmmmm.

Exactly. Would be a walk in the park to modify a pod to accept ejuice.

They can easily be filled. They are too small to hold enough tobacco or shisha to give you sufficient nicotine. Eliquid in all the fillers I have tried just boils right away in the pods and produces almost no vapour. What it needs is a custom mouthpiece.

Well. it is an apples to apples temperature comparison. However he does not mention what exactly he is using for temperature measurements. RTD, thermocouple or what. Also he is not measuring the actual coil temperature where the atomization takes place, he is measuring the outside area. I can guarantee you that the coil temperature is much higher than those measurements indicate.
