It appears that last week an Iowa House/Senate Conference Committee removed a provision from legislation (SF 2284) that would have prohibited adults from using smokeless tobacco or e-cigarettes on any K-12 school district property, and that would have authorized school boards to permantly bannish violators from their property.

Note that Division IV "tobacco Prohibited on School Grounds" (on page 13) in Senate approved SF2284 (in pink on top of webpage) is not included in the Conference Committee Substitute bill CCS 2284 (in white on bottom of webpage).
So it looks like adults who attend high school football and basketball games, plays, graduations and other events at K-12 schools in Iowa won't be given oral cavity searches (and won't have suspected evidence seized) as they enter school district property or when they hold their hand to their mouth (to ensure that folks aren't hiding e-cigs in their hands).
But I haven't seen any news stories about this legislative change.
I believe that SF 2284 was Plan B by the sponsors and supporters of last year's Iowa Senate bill that would have banned the sale of dissolvable tobacco products in Iowa, which was defeated.
