332 was the S/N DASAP won with a guess of 328

Damn, if we would of had 2 guesses 332 was my next guess. LOL

I think I finally got one of my PCs running right again. I'll never ever have a Western Digital HDD again. My TB hard drive with around 500 movies crashed. It was the newest part I had too. But alls not bad. Today is my 2yr. ECF anniversery and I haven't smoked for that long either.

Happy anniversary and congrats, two years is a milestone to be proud of!

Western Digital offers good customer service and is good about replacing a bum drive. That being said, any hard drive can fail no matter who makes it. If you want to reduce your chances of failure you have to go solid state!

It also helps to backup often!

From what I've been reading they are not very good. I had my computors backed up on this hard drive. It was an external. I only had it about a yr. The ones in my PCs are 3 times that old or more. Oh well I'll just start over.

Try a Linux Live CD (free download). You may be able to use that to recover the files off the drive.

Thanks Mod. I went to WD support but nothing. Took it to a hard drive guy and he tested the PCB and said it was good so it's probably the heads.
I'm going to check that Linux Live CD you posted.

Sorry to hear about the hard drive crash - never fun losing data. Definitely worth giving the Linux Live CD Modrod mentioned a try. Very often sectors go bad and cause file system corruption and Windows can no longer read the data on the drive. Usually catastrophic physical failures are presaged by unusual or excessive noise - but not always.

After my last major HD failure I built an unRAID server - it is basically a pseudo RAID configuration with parity, It is not 1 to 1 but I would have to have 2 drives completely fail at the same time to have any unrecoverable data loss.

Hope you can pull some data off the HD. Good Luck!

............

Things have been hectic lately - I can't believe I missed a Contest - :(. Oh Well - Congrats to the winner!

Well it's toast. It quit even being read by windows. But the good part is I have about 250 of the movies on disk and I wanted a 2TB. HDD anyway so now I'm going to get one. As soon as I downloaded that disk it went bye-bye.:):):)

Thanks G$. It has been hectic. It messed up all 3 PCs I have hooked together but I think I got them all working great again. I might be able to spend more time on ECF again.
