that is a real bummer!!! deal breaker for me, as I don't use temp limiting
7 TC mods and don't use it on any of them ....
I can confirm This. No step down, my derringer with .20 hits like it's at 50 watts when the screen says 1.18v, 7 watts. Friggin p4you.
Setting it to tc and high temp should work with kanthal, right? Then you have step down
Confused as well. This mod can hit as light as a feather if you want it to in TC mode. I tested it at 10J 212F with a fresh battery and produced a barely noticeable cloud.

Can someone try kanthal in TC mode to see if it can do step down without kicking out of TC mode.

I was interested when it first came out but after using it on multiple mod's, it's just doesn't thrill me. I get the same experience from a well coiled, well wicked rta. however, if I was still into drippers I might use it
Good idea, just tried it. It works! Put my derringer kanthal .20 on set it to 10 joules and it fired it, although it barely heated the coil. Didn't kick me out of TC mode either. Works from 10-50 joules. However you're limited to 50 joules. So if you want step down for kanthal kiss the 75 watts goodbye.
It should be ok because if you are wanting it to do step down i don't think you would want to fire it between 50 to 75 watts anyways.

Exactly. Sounds like a good work around to me. If you need stepdown, you probably don't want 50-75W/J. And if you do, run in power mode.
Anybody take their D2's apart yet? Throw some close ups of the board up if you have.

Had that thing apart 3 times, for other people.
phil B will have fun with this one!! Unless they fix it first. Must be a FW error as the chip must do proper buck for the TC as someone said already. Early adopters usual kick in the nether regions. Oh well.
The ability is obviously there is testing in TC confirms a drop. it is just not in the Firmware to control in VW mode.
A choice, not a defect.(not a logical choice)
Then again............. Has anyone actually attempted to find a PWM mode in VW? Maybe it Can be Switched on.
I'll see what I can figure out when mine arrives.
It sucks for those of us who already have the D2. I doubt we're going to be able to update the firmware through the 5 volt barrel Jack input LOL. Not unless there's a hidden micro USB in there somewhere, evenn if it is firmware fixable. And who's to blame, p4you or Yihi.
I'm new to regulated devices, please explain the step down function for me and whether or not it's something I'm going to wish I had.
