I got a clapton working pretty good. 28g ni200 over 26g kanthal .199 ohms 35j 430 degrees vaping as I would expect a clapton to vape. Maybe just under flavor intensity of a kanthal clapton but its really good. First one I got to work well have it sitting in a Tugboat V2, not pretty but at least I got a plan for the next one. If your wondering that cotton is not burned brown, I just vaped it dry and its white under there. Its was just discoloration from my DIY Carmel tobacco.

The TC has been working great indeed, and battery life has improved which is no surprise. My 2-wire twisted single coil Ti build (6 wraps 26g 3mm 0.20ohms) hasn't gunked up after 3 days of vaping my DIY Tobacco Absolute (tobacco is notorious for gunking up coils). Here is a pic I just took after I vaped it until barely any juice left...no gunk, and the cotton is nearly bone dry and has shrunk considerably because of it but it's still in great shape and ready to be juiced up again.

That looks good. I had trouble getting a contact clapton to work, thats why my last pic its spaced. I have not messed with it as its working exceptional well and has not gunked up at all which surprises me. Every other TC coil I have used has gunked up in rapid fashion kinda weird. I only get a dry hit once a month maybe or longer, so its not really a issue with me. But this is something to mess around with I guess.

I haven't wrapped a Ti Clapton yet but plan to once get some thinner gauge wire. I wonder how accurate the TC would be if I use 30g Kanthal wrapped around a 26g Ti wire.

It would not help anything and probably block performance. You want the Ti or Ni to be in contact with the liquid.

Does anyone have a silicone sleeve they don't want? Mine didn't come with one, and I REALLY want one :). If so, please PM me.

I would offer, but with my failing grip things are hitting the floor more and more. Eventually I will be forced into using it. :(

That's what I expected, so in the meantime I'll just enjoy my twisted builds. I'm considering a 3-wire twisted build just for the sake of experimenting with it.

I'm confused on what the advantages of twisted wire are? It does look kinda cool but just seems like a lot of work. Why not just use a thicker guage wire instead to save the hassle?

Better e-liquid saturation on the coil many little places for droplets to await vaporization.

Right behind you...
Plus some folks enjoy the "hassle". For a lot of us, vaping is as much a hobby and recreation as it is simple smoking cessation and harm reduction (if not more so!). Spending an evening making a nice strand of clapton coil is relaxing and rewarding in and of itself, and they do vape great if you've got the power to push them.

How much power do you need and what's the cool down time on them. I'll look up how tk make them tonight. I'm into the hobby too. Glad you guys like them. I'm hearing a lot of hype about them so that was an honest question. I knew there was some advantage to them. You can also buy pretwisfed kanthal from 101. Is this the same? Furthermore I thought Clapton meant it was wrapped around guitar wire. Or has Clapton just become the generic term for all twisted coils?

Clapton is - Wrapped LIKE a Guitar string.:)
One wire tightly wound around another straight wire.

Here is a couple links to help you on your way. You will be shocked at the flavor increase on twisted and clapton coils. Its hard for me to vape standard coils anymore its just not satisfying to me. My Orchid is the exception as dual 26g does me fine but the rest not so much.

You just need a regulated device. I vape all mine at 30-40 watts so if you have a D2 your good.

On twisted wire I do mine by hand with a hooked probe (like a punch only sharper, hooked & with a handle) & locking forceps. Here are some simple instructions for making twisted wire & Clapton coils.

TWISTED
Take a piece of wire at least 10 inches long bend a 1/8 inch length of the ends back against its self.

Crimp those ends together with the forceps

Put the hook in the apex of the loop you now created

Use the hook to twist the wire until either end starts to over twist the wire (it's easy to tell when & after you have done it once or twice you get a feel for when you're finished twisting).

*after about my 3rd or 4th time I could get it done in about 5 minutes.

CLAPTON (takes me much more than 5 minutes)

2 sets of locking forceps

Take the wire you plan on using as your inner length of wire & bend both ends 1/8inch back on to it's self.

Lock each end in opposing forceps

Find a way to secure each set of forceps(I use 2 vices I'm sure there are easier more convenient ways but this is how I do it).

Twist your outside wire around the wire you now have secured in the forceps like you would a regular coil around a screw driver, drill bit or rod.

Cut ends & wrap coil.

Yeah I've done triple twisted 28 gauge & it worked out well. I also did one where I used the left over length of the triple twisted 28 gauge then wrapped that with 0.8x0.1mm flat ribbon kanthal...the flavor was amazing!
30 twisted is really good in tanks as the heat is not as high and it cools down really fast. Im out right now I need to order some.
