I finally received my IPV3 today and was pretty excited and liking it. This was until I had the TV on pause and everything else was quiet and I pushed the fire button and heard a very high pitch noise coming from the unit.
I don't know if it was making the noise right out of the box because there was always background noise. Now if it's quiet I can hear this noise with the unit at an arms length away. The noise goes away as soon as the screen shuts off and starts again as soon as the screen lights up. I'm using LG HE2 20 amp batteries which are capable of handling a lot more power than I am using.(25 watts, 4V/.65= 6.15 amp draw) Even if it had something to do with the batteries I switched them out to another fresh matched pair of LG HE2's and even tried an older matched pair of VTC4's. The noise occurs with or without an atty. on it and if your wondering which one I am using, see the next 2 lines if not skip them,
Aqua with the air flow holes bored out to 2mm, with a 28 gauge 8/7 wrap 2mm dual coil thats reading .65 ohms, The IPV3 auto read on the ohms was .6 and set it to 7 watts and 2.1V. At that setting it took too long to heat up and I increased the power to 17watts,3.4V/.65 = 5.23 amp draw.
So its not the batteries and its not the atty am I left to believe that I got a defective unit or are there any other IPV3 owners having this issue? Does anyone have any ideas as what could be causing this noise?
This is part of an edit: I just noticed that the high pitched noise actually makes an even higher pitched noise and goes a couple of hertz higher when I use the fire button and then returns to the lower hertz high pitch sound once I release it and then goes away when the screen shuts off, it's still powered on and not in the lock mode just in stand by.
Any ideas on how to make it stop short of throwing it out of a hot air balloon and shooting with an M4 or should I return it to the vendor. I really dont want to waste a bullet or ruin my hot air balloon marriage proposal nor do I want to return it since I've waited very patiently for over a month now for it to come.
If I do return it should I switch over to the T-8 or a SMY 180 watt, not really liking the Sigelei 100 watt too much nor the thought of having to match 2 sets of 3 batteries for the SMY thats too many batteries. I thought that getting the IPV3 instead of the Sigelei would be better since it has the S version of the chipset thats upgradeable VS the non upgradeable in the Sigelei.
AHHHHH ... am I to do? I'm open to suggestions.
Sorry for the very specific post that should be elsewhere but I haven't made enough posts yet so I am relegated to the new members forum still. If a moderator can find it in their heart to move it to a more appropriate forum I would greatly appreciate it. I think that I would get more and better responses from experienced users if it were posted in APV discussion or Variable Voltage APV discussion. If not I thank you anyway for giving all of us a centralized place to discuss everything E-cig. "Smell my face !!!!!"
