Is 10 W supposed to burn your juice?

Yep. That is the question. I see YouTube reviews all the time where the reviewer says… 2 ohms… setting the battery to 10 watts.
I have several devices and if I get over 8.5 W, they start tasting burnt.
My coils are:
1.7
1.8 (two of these)
1.9
2.0
2.1
2.2
2.4
2.6
2.7
2.8
3.0
Yeah… I have lots of devices. I switch out my flavors all day long.
So.. for a Wattage newb…. For coils that range from 1.7Ω to 3.0Ω – what should I be setting my device to so I don’t have to keep dry burning them to get rid of the burnt taste?

"Set it and forget it" is the common cry with VW... but in reality it only applies with "normal" attys ... and, as it turns out, about in the range you're working - so yeah, the recommendations of 7 watts +/- is on the money.
When I started, I got mixed signals about VW devices... but guess what (or watt in this case), with your range of resistances, 6-8 watts works great and going higher is... whizzing in the wind.

Stock devices vape very well for me at a puny 7 watts. I like that vape with most of my juices.

I also have a hybrid and an Ithaka clone on a mech and a bunch of RBAs. I run the Ithaka at over 20 watts with no burnt juice. I only like it with certain juices. It is a fantastic vape, but really too much sometimes lol.

If you rebuild your own coils, I can give you a build for stock devices that will run very nice at between 10 and 13 watts but the caution is it is a rich vape and if you don't reduce your nic %, you will get too much very quick.

It all depends on the device (including the coil) and the juice. Start at about 6 watts. Increase one step at a time until juice tastes burnt. Reduce one step. That will be the maximum wattage for that juice and device. When the coil gets gunked up you will need to reduce it a bit more.

I've seen this so often and I just don't get it. What makes more sense to me is start at the lowest setting and bump up a step at a time until you get a good flavor and temperature. If it taste burnt before you reach it, you need a new delivery device or a different coil build.

But I suppose some want the hottest they can get and that is all there is to it.

The only devices I have not rebuilt is my tumblers. I rebuild my T3s, EVODs and puritank.

As for nic, I vape 4 mg, so you couldn't reduce it all that much. I make my own and have some at 19 mg for those rough days. :)

I just ran 12 watts on the igo l and over nicced myself big time. Def recommend reducing nic level when do that.

When I was vaping with little Egos pushing 4-5 watts, 18mg juice was my sweet spot. Now that I routinely vape 11-12 watts, I have dropped down to 12mg, otherwise I over-nic myself. Still can't believe at one point (for a few years) I smoked 2 1/2 packs a day without ever feeling over-nicced.

Those devices are perfect if you want a richer vape at a little higher wattage. Here's a good build that will handle more power:

You need 30 AWG Kanthal, 3 mm silica rope wick, a #47 drill bit. Wrap the wire tightly around the drill bit, 9 wraps with no more than 1 wire diameter between each coil wrap. Wrap left to right over the bit -- this makes threading the wick easier. Thread a piece of wick (about an inch is enough so it won't unravel) by inserting it left to right and twisting it to the left so the rope tightens on itself and it threads in. Gently get it started and twist it into the coil as if you were threading a screw into a nut. Assemble as usual, and no flavor wicks. The resistance will be about 2 ohms.

Prime it, fill the tank and vape away. Unless your juice is atypical, up to 13 watts should be no problem and a nice, rich vape.

[edit -- got the drill bit size wrong, was looking at my notes for a 2mm wick. #47 is the correct size for 3mm. Corrected now.

It doesn't mean that someone should vape at the hottest wattage. It means what it says, that that is the maximum power with that hardware and juice if you want to avoid burnt hits.

But next time I write that, I'll explain it better. I see how you misunderstood it :thumb:
