Is an e-cig really an analog by definition

This has been a question that I have pondered for awhile now. Visiting friend and told her I was vaping not smoking any more, her response was what I expected - will it smell like a analog? will it bother her if I vaped? In the end she was okay with this but I could tell that she viewed it as the same as an analog because it looked like one. Since an e-cig doesn't contain tobacco but can contain nicotine, is it really an e-cigarette. If you look up the definition of an analog it always contains tobacco. Would it not have been more acceptable and less on the radar of regulatory authorities if it were called say an e-vapour or some less inflammatory name? Would the non-smoking public and anti-smoking advocates be more receptive if it were called another name? Just a thought. Searched the forum and could not find any references to this topic. Not trying to create waves, just dialogue.

I think after people vape for a while they start to refer to their device as a personal vaporiser(pv) instead of an e cig. that being said this is only my observation from reading forum posts.

Cigarettes involve the combustion of dried plant material in a paper tube - thus producing smoke, as a byproduct, that carries the active ingredient, nicotine.

A PV, by definition, does not involve combustion or plant materials so does not produce the odor or particulates that a cigarette does.

The only way they would not find it inflammatory is, if our devices did not produce vapor. I find most of the non-smokers and I mean the vast majority are quite ok with it. The zealots are ticked because we have found a healthier alternative to smoking. It`s that quit or die attitude of theirs. The zealots have a new enemy now, it`s not just tobacco anymore, it`s tobacco and nicotine.

The anti smoking groups see vaping the same way they view smoking. I am not sure calling it an e-cig or a pv will make any difference to them. They know as we do that it is a healthier alternative, but its the same behavior. They want to control a behavior that mimics smoking, I guess.

Instead of talking about the stuff that has already been mentioned in this thread already I'll address the opening lines of your statement.

Vapor still puts out a smell, as we all know, and some people are PG sensitive. So, if you are around people that have an aversion to smoking, you should use a nice sweet flavored vape, like a fruit or a dessert rather then a hardcore tobacco flavor. That way you come across as an in house scentsy, filling the room with nice smells and rainbows.

If you come across someone who is PG sensitive, if they sneeze or get stuffed up around Febreeze or Glade plug ins you should refrain from using it, period. Even though we are no longer smokers and no they are not the same, there is still some etiquette involved.

Even using these rules I have had people see a cloud of vapor and say "Oh that stinks" as a knee jerk reaction to seeing the cloud. To which I reply "Oh really it should smell like Gummy Bears, or Strawberry Shortcake or whatever vapor I have in at that time" Then they sit back for a second and agree that it does.

Even though we aren't smoking there is still a stigma and a kneejerk reaction that comes from it. Best to be polite and explain to help them over the hurdle of seeing the physical vapor. People can be easily appeased if you do and say the right things. Just a thought.

I agree with everything Kagey says.

I tend not to vape in public just because I want to avoid the awkward conversations with people who aren't informed.
I also don't want to blow a big plume of vapor into the wrong direction in a store and have someone complain.

I generally adhere to the etiquette of public smoking and such, but sometimes I stealth vape in stores just because I need a fix.

I have nonsmoker friends who cant distinctly tell what juice I'm vaping based on the smell. There's a definite odor, but they're also definitely a DIGI. Not analog. Mechs... I don't know, are mechs sorta kinda technically an analog device? It's a switch and it fires from the battery directly with no regulation?
