Revelation chapter 18 is where Babylon is destroyed. I read this chapter this morning, and it really sounds like the destruction of the USA that we are seeing now. Any thoughts on this?

Babylon is Destroyed

18:1 After these things I saw another angel, who possessed great authority, coming down out of heaven, and the earth was lit up by his radiance. 1 18:2 He 2 shouted with a powerful voice:
“Fallen, fallen, is Babylon the great!
She 3 has become a lair for demons,
a haunt 4 for every unclean spirit,
a haunt for every unclean bird,
a haunt for every unclean and detested beast. 5
18:3 For all the nations 6 have fallen 7 from
the wine of her immoral passion, 8
and the kings of the earth have committed sexual immorality with her,
and the merchants of the earth have gotten rich from the power of her sensual behavior.” 9
18:4 Then 10 I heard another voice from heaven saying, “Come out of her, my people, so you will not take part in her sins and so you will not receive her plagues, 18:5 because her sins have piled 11 up all the way to heaven 12 and God has remembered 13 her crimes. 14 18:6 Repay her the same way she repaid others; 15 pay her back double 16 corresponding to her deeds. In the cup she mixed, mix double the amount for her. 18:7 As much as 17 she exalted herself and lived in sensual luxury, 18 to this extent give her torment and grief because she said to herself, 19 ‘I rule as queen and am no widow; I will never experience grief!’ 18:8 For this reason, she will experience her plagues 20 in a single day: disease, 21 mourning, 22 and famine, and she will be burned down 23 with fire, because the Lord God who judges her is powerful!”
18:9 Then 24 the kings of the earth who committed immoral acts with her and lived in sensual luxury 25 with her will weep and wail for her when they see the smoke from the fire that burns her up. 26 18:10 They will stand a long way off because they are afraid of her torment, and will say,
“Woe, woe, O great city,
Babylon the powerful city!
For in a single hour your doom 27 has come!”
18:11 Then 28 the merchants of the earth will weep and mourn for her because no one buys their cargo 29 any longer – 18:12 cargo such as gold, silver, 30 precious stones, pearls, fine linen, purple cloth, silk, 31 scarlet cloth, 32 all sorts of things made of citron wood, 33 all sorts of objects made of ivory, all sorts of things made of expensive wood, bronze, iron and marble, 18:13 cinnamon, spice, 34 incense, perfumed ointment, 35 frankincense, 36 wine, olive oil and costly flour, 37 wheat, cattle and sheep, horses and four-wheeled carriages, 38 slaves and human lives. 39
18:14 (The ripe fruit 40 you greatly desired 41
has gone from you,
and all your luxury 42 and splendor 43
have gone from you –
they will never ever be found again!) 44
18:15 The merchants who sold 45 these things, who got rich from her, will stand a long way off because they are afraid of her torment. They will weep 46 and mourn, 18:16 saying,
“Woe, woe, O great city –
dressed in fine linen, purple and scarlet clothing, 47
and adorned with gold, 48 precious stones, and pearls –
18:17 because in a single hour such great wealth has been destroyed!” 49
And every ship’s captain, 50 and all who sail along the coast 51 – seamen, and all who 52 make their living from the sea, stood a long way off 18:18 and began to shout 53 when they saw the smoke from the fire that burned her up, 54 “Who is like the great city?” 18:19 And they threw dust on their heads and were shouting with weeping and mourning, 55
“Woe, Woe, O great city –
in which all those who had ships on the sea got rich from her wealth –
because in a single hour she has been destroyed!” 56
18:20 (Rejoice over her, O heaven,
and you saints and apostles and prophets,
for God has pronounced judgment 57 against her on your behalf!) 58
18:21 Then 59 one powerful angel picked up a stone like a huge millstone, threw it into the sea, and said,
“With this kind of sudden violent force 60
Babylon the great city will be thrown down 61
and it will never be found again!
18:22 And the sound of the harpists, musicians,
flute players, and trumpeters
will never be heard in you 62 again.
No 63 craftsman 64 who practices any trade
will ever be found in you again;
the noise of a mill 65 will never be heard in you again.
18:23 Even the light from a lamp
will never shine in you again!
The voices of the bridegroom and his bride
will never be heard in you again.
For your merchants were the tycoons of the world,
because all the nations 66 were deceived by your magic spells! 67
18:24 The 68 blood of the saints and prophets was found in her, 69
along with the blood 70 of all those who had been killed on the earth.”

Rome....Babylon is the harlot....the harlot is Rome. Peter says he writes from Babylon. Peter was in Rome...The early Christians called Rome "Babylon".

Lisa, it really sounds like the USA, but I don't think so. Babylon is in Iraq. Saddam tried to rebuild it to it's previous 'glory.' Didn't happen. But, regardless, whether it's Rome, Iraq, or any other place, I truly think Babylon is not the USA. I think the USA will be a third world nation by this time....no influence, no fire power, no nothing. It will be under the black wing of the anti-christ. Does that make any sense?

Have to go against the grain here (par for the course.. lol)

Yes, (In my humble opinion and I've always thought this) definitely the USA is the 'New Babylon'.... we've lead the way, been admired as well as the envy (and!) corrupted EVERY Country with our Capitalism, our Pornography, our Politics, you name it. That PAGAN statue of Liberty? She's the symbol of the Great ..... that's prostituted herself to everyone (for the right price). We taught the rest of the World debauchery to the nth degree... and we're so 'proud' of that... (Generally speaking)

PS - Please don't 'make' me 'prove' this... I'm going out of state for the Holidays, but promise, when I return I'll list (in depth) the horrifying proof of my case against us.

I heard something last night that I wanted to share on this thread. The reason that the USA is not Babylon is that we are the last great power standing in the way of a one world government. I thought....chuh! Of course! I let that soak in awhile and I knew it to be truth. We will fall as a world power.....right on our tushes, and that will be the gateway for a one world government. Remember Soros saying that the USA was the last main obstacle in the way? Yep, that's us. So as long as we stand, the USA stands, 'the Republic for which it stands,' a one world government can't come into power. Very interesting and truthful. I didn't believe it is anyway, but here is further truth.:)

I am so reminded of 2 different men of God who interceded for God's people....Moses and Abraham. Moses was offered a whole "new" nation to spring from him, that God would wipe out the stubborn and stiff necked people but Moses was not selfish and interceded, God moved. Abraham had a long a drawn out intercessory time with God to save Lot and his family out of Sodom and Gomorrah...God heard and saved.
We as God's people have the same ability to seek his face and ask for him to turn this nation back to him. God has been speaking so clearly about this to me the last couple of days...there are many that want to see a mighty work of God, but we seem to have lost our way as a nation filled with churches. The desire to see God move and the confusion as to why there is so much oppression. We need to pray for the body of Christ to wake up and do what he has called us to do.
Pray for the body folks...the fields are white with harvest...pray to the Lord of the harvest to send workers....

Isaiah 58 is sooooo good:
True Fasting
1 “Shout it aloud, do not hold back.
Raise your voice like a trumpet.
Declare to my people their rebellion
and to the descendants of Jacob their sins.
2 For day after day they seek me out;
they seem eager to know my ways,
as if they were a nation that does what is right
and has not forsaken the commands of its God.
They ask me for just decisions
and seem eager for God to come near them.

3 ‘Why have we fasted,’ they say,
‘and you have not seen it?
Why have we humbled ourselves,
and you have not noticed?’
“Yet on the day of your fasting, you do as you please
and exploit all your workers.

4 Your fasting ends in quarreling and strife,
and in striking each other with wicked fists.
You cannot fast as you do today
and expect your voice to be heard on high.

5 Is this the kind of fast I have chosen,
only a day for people to humble themselves?
Is it only for bowing one’s head like a reed
and for lying in sackcloth and ashes?
Is that what you call a fast,
a day acceptable to the LORD?

6 “Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen:
to loose the chains of injustice
and untie the cords of the yoke,
to set the oppressed free
and break every yoke?
7 Is it not to share your food with the hungry
and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter—
when you see the naked, to clothe them,
and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood?
8 Then your light will break forth like the dawn,
and your healing will quickly appear;
then your righteousness[a] will go before you,
and the glory of the LORD will be your rear guard.
9 Then you will call, and the LORD will answer;
you will cry for help, and he will say: Here am I.

“If you do away with the yoke of oppression,
with the pointing finger and malicious talk,
10 and if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry
and satisfy the needs of the oppressed,

then your light will rise in the darkness,
and your night will become like the noonday.
11 The LORD will guide you always;
he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land
and will strengthen your frame.
You will be like a well-watered garden,
like a spring whose waters never fail.
12 Your people will rebuild the ancient ruins
and will raise up the age-old foundations;
you will be called Repairer of Broken Walls,
Restorer of Streets with Dwellings.

13 “If you keep your feet from breaking the Sabbath
and from doing as you please on my holy day,
if you call the Sabbath a delight
and the LORD’s holy day honorable,
and if you honor it by not going your own way
and not doing as you please or speaking idle words,
14 then you will find your joy in the LORD,
and I will cause you to ride in triumph on the heights of the land
and to feast on the inheritance of your father Jacob.”
For the mouth of the LORD has spoken.

Yep, that's how it looks to me! Revelation chapter 18 spells it out. Notice it's a wealthy city, full of riches, in full description.

Notice verse 16:
and saying, 'Alas, alas, that great city that was clothed in fine linen [WHITE], purple [BLUE], and scarlet [RED], and adorned with gold and precious stones and pearls!

Is that the red, white and blue???? I think so. I don't know of any other country that is so wealthy and corrupt as the USA.

Babylon is Destroyed

The Fall of Babylon
1 And after these things I saw another angel come down from heaven, having great power; and the earth was lightened with his glory.
2 And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, Is. 21.9 and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird. Is. 13.21 · Jer. 50.39
3 For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, Jer. 51.7 and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies.
4 And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, Is. 48.20 · Jer. 50.8 that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.
5 For her sins have reached unto heaven, Jer. 51.9 and God hath remembered her iniquities.
6 Reward her even as she rewarded you, Ps. 137.8 · Jer. 50.29 and double unto her double according to her works: in the cup which she hath filled, fill to her double.
7 How much she hath glorified herself, and lived deliciously, so much torment and sorrow give her: for she saith in her heart, I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow.
8 Therefore shall her plagues come in one day, Is. 47.8, 9 death, and mourning, and famine; and she shall be utterly burned with fire: for strong is the Lord God who judgeth her.
9 ¶ And the kings of the earth, who have committed fornication and lived deliciously with her, shall bewail her, and lament for her, when they shall see the smoke of her burning,
10 standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, Alas, alas, that great city Babylon, that mighty city! for in one hour is thy judgment come. Ezek. 26.16-18
11 ¶ And the merchants of the earth shall weep and mourn over her; for no man buyeth their merchandise any more:
12 the merchandise of gold, and silver, and precious stones, and of pearls, and fine linen, and purple, and silk, and scarlet, and all thyine wood, and all manner vessels of ivory, and all manner vessels of most precious wood, and of brass, and iron, and marble,
13 and cinnamon, and odors, and ointments, and frankincense, and wine, and oil, and fine flour, and wheat, and beasts, and sheep, and horses, and chariots, and slaves, and souls of men.
14 And the fruits that thy soul lusted after are departed from thee, and all things which were dainty and goodly are departed from thee, and thou shalt find them no more at all.
15 The merchants of these things, which were made rich by her, shall stand afar off for the fear of her torment, weeping and wailing,
16 and saying, Alas, alas, that great city, that was clothed in fine linen, and purple, and scarlet, and decked with gold, and precious stones, and pearls!
17 For in one hour so great riches is come to nought. And every shipmaster, and all the company in ships, and sailors, and as many as trade by sea, stood afar off,
18 and cried when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, What city is like unto this great city!
19 And they cast dust on their heads, and cried, weeping and wailing, saying, Alas, alas, that great city, wherein were made rich all that had ships in the sea by reason of her costliness! for in one hour is she made desolate. Ezek. 27.25-36
20 Rejoice over her, thou heaven, Jer. 51.48 and ye holy apostles and prophets; for God hath avenged you on her.
21 ¶ And a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone, and cast it into the sea, saying, Thus with violence shall that great city Babylon be thrown down, Jer. 51.63, 64 and shall be found no more at all. Ezek. 26.21
22 And the voice of harpers, and musicians, and of pipers, and trumpeters, shall be heard no more at all in thee; Ezek. 26.13 and no craftsman, of whatsoever craft he be, shall be found any more in thee; and the sound of a millstone shall be heard no more at all in thee;
23 and the light of a candle shall shine no more at all in thee; and the voice of the bridegroom and of the bride shall be heard no more at all in thee: Jer. 25.10 for thy merchants were the great men of the earth; for by thy sorceries were all nations deceived.
24 And in her was found the blood of prophets, and of saints, and of all that were slain upon the earth. Jer. 51.49

Ezek. 26.21
22 And the voice of harpers, and musicians, and of pipers, and trumpeters, shall be heard no more at all in thee; Ezek. 26.13 and no craftsman, of whatsoever craft he be, shall be found any more in thee; and the sound of a millstone shall be heard no more at all in thee;
Jer. 51.49
