I rinsed my 901 and 510 atomizers out last night and my 510 burned out after I dried it out. Now my 901 doesn't seem to vape as well as it used to. I was told it was ok to rinse them out every 2 to 3 weeks, but now I'm not sure if they should come in contact with water at all.
is it bad to rinse out your atomizer?

I rinse mine periodically and it hasn't hurt them. Did you let them sit overnight to make sure they're really dry?
I rinse mine out daily. I even put a condom on the bottom so hot water can sit in there for a few minutes and I've heard of folks using alcohol on their attys.
Thing is, when you clean them you have to let them dry, first of all, and then you've got to break them in again if the cleaning was thorough. I read of a GREAT way to break in attys just last night on ecf. Put a condom on bottom of atty, fill with ten drops of the liquid you're going to vape, put a condom on top and let sit for at least five minutes. When you vape you won't have to experience that awful break-in period all over again.

Heck I sometimes rinse mine, blow them out really good and dry burn them to get them cleaned out, then I put some Zero flavor PG in it and puff away until the watered down taste goes away and it starts vaping really nice. Then I'll put in whatever flavor I wanted to change to.. I've been vaping for about 2 months now and I JUST had my first Atty die and I chain vape LOL..
If they even have the slightest bit of water or Iso Alc in them, they will appear to not be working correctly. You can do a dry burn in short bursts (you'll see the coil start to turn orange) until it fires up almost instantly and then try vaping it again by dripping.
I never clean my attys, and I generally get 3 to 4 months of solid use out of them. I just blow them out occasionally.

you do not have to wait until they are dry, just blow them out until water stops coming out, put a drop of juice on them, and vape until you get a burnt taste, then add 2 drops and you are good to go.

As soon as my attys start to produce less vapor, I clean them like this:
Soak in vodka overnight
Rinse with hot tap water
Let dry overnight
Drip 8-10 drops of juice
Vape away!
This almost always gets the atty back to 'brand new' vapor production.

Nope. It's the best thing you can do for them. Haven't had one single atty die on me in 8 months all because I rinse mine out once a week
I'm using some really thick juices so I wanted to try cleaning my cartos. So yesterday I proceeded to take one apart, unroll the poly, etc.. and soak the works in ISO ALC, just like I do with my attys. When I finished I tried to put it back together as it originally was. No way! Couldn't manage to get it back to it's original condition. I don't think I ruined it just gonna have to figure out how to make it usable again. I think in the future I'm just gonna have a bunch of extras on hand, soak the whole thing in ISO without disassembling, and after rinsing just blow em out good and leave em to dry out for a few days. Unless someone has a better idea?

I could be wrong (I'm pretty new to carto's in general), but from everything I've read cartomizers are made to be pretty much disposable. Sure you can refill them and get several uses out of them, but I *think* when they're done, they're just done. Toss 'em and pull out a new one. Again - I could be wrong, but that's pretty much what I've seen and read about carto's.
At a buck and a half a carto that's a bit spendy for my tastes! I like being able to refill em, and get some good use out of em, like I do attys (I prefer cartos to attys because once filled they last so much longer). I'm gonna try this method and will get back to you with the results regarding longevity!
Don't clean them, but you can refill them about 15 times -- and then discard them. Also, I have a blog about how to clean cartos. The link is accessible under my user name at the left and will tell you the best way to clean cartos with water to get all the excess water out -- and why you shouldn't clean cartos. I also would not soak cartos in isopropyl alcohol.
If you insist on cleaning cartos (or want to flush out bad juice), you can dry them quickly on a shallow pan in the oven at about 210 degrees for a few minutes. Beats letting them dry by a fan for 2 to 3 days -- and the heat won't harm the cartos.
You might as well throw away the one you dismantled. They're not made to take apart and put back together.

The refill lifespan of a carto is supposed to be around 5 times, which is doggone good. My cigarettes were never refillable. Once I'd smoked one it was gone forever.
I'm kinda nuts about cleaning attys and cartos because I'm inhaling the juice that's in them. When they start to look dry and disreputable I put my cartos in two baths of boiling water (off the heat) for five minutes, blow them out and let them dry overnight. There are usually faint remnants of the flavor they held but I just refill with the same thing.
That being said, it's a pain in the ..... I'm sick of it and usually having them not draw right afterward so I'm going to just keep refilling these suckers til it's time to throw them away. I haven't seen them for under a buck apiece except when bought in bulk but, compared to cigarettes - which are in no way, shape or form reusable - they're a cost savings either way you do it.
