I've noticed this more with the thicker liquids like the chocolates. I flush the carts with vodka to clean them, blow them out, and they work fine again. With the lighter juices I've not had to clean any carts. I just keep topping them off over and over again.

Rappel, when you flush them with vodka do you let them dry first or just refill? I think the reason I have such bad luck is because I either try to fill them up when they're too wet or I let them get too dry. The ones I cleaned, and then baked, never worked again, but i think it's because the filler got too stiff and dried out.

Too wet or too dry... what am I doing wrong?

Just going to throw this out there OMG, I realize your question is directed to Rappel.

YouTube - Vapor4life Tips, Tricks & Fixes for Cartomizers (Cleaning Cartos 7:00 mark)

YouTube - Vapor4Life The Taryn Spin 2011....Everything You Need To Know (Spinning Cartos Dry Before Refilling)

Personally, I stay away from boiling and oven drying all together. I don't now how you are going about refilling them, but the Syringe Method is a pretty efficient way to go. Plus on this vid you get to take a drive over the Golden Gate Bridge and that's just................:2cool:

I just threw those re-fill vids up there for reference and driving across the GGB which is sweeet. But the Taryn Spin video should help out in the getting-them-dry scheme of things. If you use a bastor, give the bulb a couple of pumps (equivalent to blowing them out over a sink) after flushing, then spin them.

It's more effective.....it doesn't use any electricity or gas so it's carbon neutral.

Believe me, I've watched and loved all your videos, they've taught me many cool tips and tricks, thanks!

BUT, even after spinning for a loooong time, the cartos still taste wet if I don't dry them out. Once they're dried out the filler becomes hard, in my experience.

I would be really interested to know more about the vodka cleaning method. Do you rinse them with water afterward or do you just fill and vape? Do they need to be dried first? That kind of thing...

I absolutely rinse them out with water after they have soaked. For darker strong juices I first rinse them to get the intial old juice out, then soak them in vodka, then flush them with bastor in the vodka, the rinse them out for a couple of minutes in hot water. Some dark juices are just not Carto friendly when it comes cleaning. I stopped even attempting to clean those months ago, instead I just keep topping off until I toss them.

I only clean carts that I have been using light juices in like Wow Peppermint, 555, RY4, Wowboy, Grape, Razz Wow, Wow Nuport, etc.

If you find there is still too much water in the cartos for whatever reason, you could always let them sit for 30 minutes or so mouth piece end down, then try re-spinning them. Now some will tell you they have great luck with boiling them and baking them, which very well may work for them, but when I tried a dozen times or so I found I killed the bulk of the Cartos.

A little residual water in the Carto will only result in the first refill having a little bit of an off taste for the first 10 minutes of vaping. At most there maybe 1 or 2 drops of residual water left in the polyfill after being spun out mixed in with 20+ drops of juice after refilling it dissipates into vapor quickly.

I just used vodka last night on a carto and a "flavor testing" atty, and it did work well. Rappell, you are right about chocolate and other dark flavors; they do gunk them up more quickly.

Do you think the ones that I previously boiled and let dry out might come to life if I soak, rinse and spin them again?

If they are not "alive" after refilling them, they are gone for good.

This is my issue with boiling them is they were never designed to be subjected to that amount of heat for that long. Most folks just dump them into a pot because that how the 1,000 videos on Youtube show it being done. However this subjects them to extremely high heat as they sit on the bottom of the pot conducting the heat directly from the stove top. The water maybe at 220, but those cartos are much hotter.

The metal expands resulting in one of 2 things: The grounding wire pops it solder connection of the base of the Carto or the atomizer coil cracks both conditions effectively kill a cartomizer.

If you have a ton of used Cartos and still want to boil them, I highly suggest using a one of those steamer baskets to keep the cartos off the bottom of the pot.

Thanks everybody for all of your replys and ideas. I'd say I'm having a little better luck with my cartos now that I have started to use a syringe for refill. I'm just getting frustrated with cartomizers as a whole, I guess I'm not a very good judge as when to refill or when a cartos no good anymore. I could of sworn I had burnt a hole in one of my new coolcart blanks because when I went to refill the air tube kept flooding on me. I didn't put too much, the filler was never even totally saturated and the hole kept flooding. But after I spun out as much juice as I could I took it apart and it seemed fine, no burn holes or dark spots. I wonder if the wicking material might of just had a defect allowing the juice to leak through into the airway?? I dunno.

I want to be loyal to V4L, but I just feel like I'm wasting money. Has anybody tryed other cartos such as the Bloog Maxx Fusion or any of the tank style cartos such as the clearomizers or the CE2's??? I don't want to give up on vaping and definately don't want to go back to analogs, but I just want to find a more reliable consistant way to keep vaping. Once I get some more money I was thinking about trying on of the larger model PV's such as the E-Go tank model??? Has anyone had luck with those? Again thanks for all of the support and help, you guys are awesome.

Me too Badfish...there are always rumors about it, who knows if JV would even do it.

When you find that perfect Carto please let us know, I've tried Megas, Turbos, Ikens, and several CE 2 r's...the last being r4...I don't even know anymore where the newest one are....I think 6 or X the thick rope ones. After all of that...for the hassle...the dependability...ease of fill...and price I still think V4L Cartos are the best.
