Is it just me, or does anyone else notice this?

So, I watched the vet, GrimmGreen rebuild the Kanger ProTank, and I face-palmed quite a few times... Quite a few times.

GrimmGreen Kanger Protank Rebuild

Soo... Here goes:

Error 1: Did not use either a sewing Needle, Nail, or Machine Screw to space out coils, and keep coils from hitting the wick too tightly
Error 2: Did not have a good way of keeping positive leads and negative leads separate. I bend each once they hit the negative end, in opposite directions, 180 degrees apart, and verify they are not touching the metal casing
Error 3: Quirky way of cutting leads. I just bend them into place and use a toenail clipper to clip them, and I repeat a few times until there is barely anything sticking out.
Error 4: DID NOT SPACE COILS PROPERLY!
Error 5: Left Ohmmeter on, with an uninsulated tool while adjusting coil. Damn.
Error 6: No Flavor wick. At least put something to prevent leaking. Maybe I just use very high PG juice and have to worry about that...

Did anyone else facepalm as many times as I did?

Grimm's not the brightest bulb in the room when it comes to vaping technicalities or even knowledge. For someone who is considered sort of a vape reviewer icon, he falls short in my opinion.

I was totally frustrated when he finally got around to reviewing the Provari. He must have spent an entire 15 minutes complaining and wondering why it wouldn't fire at 6 volts with a 1.5 ohm atty attached. That's 15 minutes of my life that I'll never get back.

@ Baditude...

You too?!? I was like, "gee dude... Get a grip, not everyone will want to nuke their juice on a sub ohm setup!" I watched him a bit when I was first learning, but his personality quirks started grating my nerves after a bit and I moved on. He gushes too much over "boutique" products and not enough useful info for the "everyman"

I do think his old lady is hot though...points for that, but then he loses points when he says "toot"

I think you are gona make me have to watch that video. I usually don't watch his videos because he is always burping in them and I think that is kinda gross. He could at least learn how to edit that out, but to each his own.

WOW -

So, can you check out this video (you may already know it) and tell us what is overlooked in what Shaun's doing? It's my "bible" right now as I am learning to rebuild coils on an EVOD. :toast:

Kanger EVOD Bottom Coil Atomizer Rebuild HD Close Up - YouTube

That is probably the best video out there for rebuilding eVods. The only problem I have with that one is the fact that he doesn't do an ohm check on the coil before he dry burns it. I always do that first to double check for shorts.

Probably a dumb question, but what shows on the ohm meter when there is a short?

A real low resistance of say less than 1 ohm can destroy some ego battery's that don't have proper short circuit protection. It can also break your new coil with 32ga kanthal that most people use to build these heads. Learned that one the hard way on a T3 head and the rubber piece is a pain to get in on that. Starting over for a problem that can be fixed in 2 secs kinda sucks.

Those guys are reviewers I check out Fazed or Todd or Scot when I want a good tutorial

Yea, but people need to be careful. The line between a reviewer, and a tutorial vid is sometimes blurred. When someone is KNOWN for doing reviews, and they have lots of subscribers and views.....if they make a video of them building something, often times people will use it as a tutorial.

He DID say at the beginning it was his first attempt, and he wanted to get it on camera. I think the BEST thing for him to do, is to make another video of him building a coil properly. That would make sense to me......one video is his first attempt, and then when he gets better at it, he makes a better video so people wanting to learn can watch.

But yea, he did pretty much say he just watched a few videos on it, and wanted to give it a go. Although, if you don't do it properly, and your video can cause other people to make the same mistakes in the future (because people WILL undoubtedly use his video as a tutorial, whether it is meant that way or not....welcome to YouTube), then Im not sure its the best idea to even make a video of your first time building a coil, if you don't know what you are doing too well, and you know lots of people are gonna watch the video.

Anyway, just speaking my mind, constructive criticism. Personally, I watched a few of his videos, and I can't stand them, but that is because his personality/mannerisms annoy me, don't know why, LOL. Just being honest.

Grimm's quirks annoy me, but I do have him subscribed only because he often reviews things I'm interested in. I enjoy the fact that he reviews things like the Prestige auto pipe and the Vapor Zeus, because those are items I may potentially buy.

And yes, PBusardo eventually got around to the Vapor Zeus, but that was about a month after Grimm's. I am subscribed to both. ;)

grimms not the sharpest tool in the shed, but he does do alot of relevant reviews and takes the perspective of "the common vaper". i wouldnt go to his channel if i was seeking info on rebuilding, thats for sure. for that id go to someone more versed in rebuilding(JC West). that being said, i enjoy his videos.
