Hi all,

So the other day my nemesis kalafan arrived and today I have received my KFL+ for cloud9vaping (it's no doubt legit as they are official UK suppliers for SvoeMesto), from them I also got 2 authentic AW 18650s at 1600mah, some 32ga kanthal and 2mm silica.

So far I have done 5-6 builds today, just to see what's what. First attempt ended horribly with could being all bent and what not so I discarded without testing it, second one was a micro coil at 9/10 wraps and it pulled around 3ohm, if I remember correct, then I went with a simple 4/5 wrap as I had to leave the house and that was at 1.8-1.9ohm. My latest attempt resulted in 1.3ohm and achieved by folding 2mm silica and wrapping a 3/4 coil.

My problem/delusion/lack of knowledge is as follows, when I ran 1.8-1.9 coil I felt that the kayfun was quite warm, at one point I even took the battery out to see if maybe I've shorted and am looking at a thermal runaway, but no it all seem fine.

Now, when I am running 1.3ohm coil things are a little more heated, literally, kayfun gets quite heated if I indulge in some chain vaping (not particularly long drags - 3-4 seconds [kayfun delivers much better than pro tanks]) and maybe 5-7 of those almost in a row.

That said, if I let it breather for a minute it's all fine and cool.

My question is then, is it supposed to happen? Is something wrong with my kayfun? Am I being too paranoid? Wrong kanthal gauge?

Would really appreciate some input from fellow Kayfun owners on this one, I did order some 28g and organic cotton (it seems like that's the setup everyone is ape about) but in the mean time I don't think I can go back to pro tank II so any help would be awesome!

This is called Heat sinking
The Kayfun is almost all Heavy SS The excess heat generated in the chamber is quickly absorbed by the metal(a good thing)
It takes time for the heat to reach the surface and dissipate.

Perfectly normal operation.

* the Good thing
E-liquid stays cooler and does not caramelize as rapidly as in ProTank and some other cheaper Devices.

I've been playing around with a number of different coil and wick methods for a few weeks now...here's a pic of what performs the best so far, thick flavorful vapor, and a very easy build.
1.5mm micro-coil, 28 awg Kanthal, 2mm off the vent hole...and organic cotton wick, what makes this build perform so well is the extended wick that loops back up off the decks, ending on either exterior side of the coil. Make sure you use very little cotton, you should be able to pull the wick thru the coil with very little resistance, to much cotton and it gets choked off when it gets wet and expands. If done correctly air flow will NOT be affected and you'll get a normal draw.

thanks for the responses and thoughts, I've done a slightly more creative coil for it today, still 32ga wire but this time I 'braided' two of them, 4 wraps and 2 pieces of silica - 1.0-1.1 ohm of awesomeness!

it stopped heating up as much, but I have been vaping less today, either way I am glad that it seems that it's just kayfun's heat sinking in action rather than some sort of fault.

the coil works great so far, it heats up evenly throughout, starting from the middle, it did catch fire when i loaded the silica and dry burn it though hehe
