is it normal for your firing button to get warm/hot?

No, it is not normal. You most likely have a short.

I'm not familiar with your mod, but likely sources are your 510 connector, insulator, or firing pin. Check your ohm of your coil, and insure the post screws have not gotten loose. Make sure there is no part of the coil touching metal elsewhere other than the posts. Remove your wick and do short pulse burns to insure the coil is glowing from inside out, and check for hot spots in the coil.

Do not continue to use your mod until you are able to troubleshoot the problem. A hot fire button is one of the warning signs that occur before a battery vents.

Funny. I JUST got a Smoktech Fury-S a few days ago and I'm having the EXACT same problem. Google search reveals that we're not the only ones.

In fact I just registered on this forum to ask this same question.

I'm running a 0.8ohm build, and Panasonic CGR18650CH batteries. This happens across multiple batteries. When I feel the switch get hot I pop the battery out in a hurry, but the battery itself is never hot. I took it into the shop where I bought it today and the lady working there said it's normal - but I don't buy it.

So - if I'm reading 0.8 ohms across my atty, I don't have a short, right? Or is there clearly a short somewhere else in the device, and how do I test it? I'm considering returning this device. I'd definitely welcome recommendations for a new mechanical mod if I can't figure out what else is wrong...

It means that the switch's resistance is too high, so in a way, it's acting like another coil. Clean ALL the threads. If you can, disassemble the switch and clean it up too.

Thank you. I'll get out some alcohol and lint free towel and let you know how it goes.

Ok so I cleaned it up - got lots of gunk out. I cleaned and cleaned until no more gunk was coming out - both on the switch threads and atty threads. I think I notice improved vapor production, so it definitely cleaned up some resistance. Unfortunately, the switch is still heating up.

The problem is getting worse and worse over just the few days I've had it (by which I mean, originally it was get a bit warm, and now it's starting to get hot). That heat didn't seem to improve with the cleaning I just did.

Also, playing with the switch and doing a google search, it doesn't look like there's a way to disassemble the switch without breaking it. :?:

PS. something specific I notice about the heat is that it isn't the switch that is heating up directly, its the inner "ring" inside the switch. The resistance across the switch is about 0.5 ohms. (I think... if I'm testing it right)

If it IS right (and it very well could be based on the fact that it gets hot) that means there's something wrong with the switch. 0.5 ohms is WAY too high a resistance for a switch - if you have an atomizer at 0.5 ohms, HALF the power your battery is putting out is getting wasted heating the switch, and that's NOT a good thing.

Honestly, I would not use that mod until you get the issue sorted out, something inside that switch is making a poor electrical contact.

This is sounding right to me. Here's why: I've noticed that on occasion that it gets quite hot, my vapor production drops way off. The first time it happened, I thought I was imagining things. But occasionally I'll get a fantastic pull and notice that it didn't heat up on me.

Also, this switch is already getting "stuck" in the on position occasionally.

There's no way to disassemble this switch so far as I can tell... :(

Would the best course of action try to be to return this device? I'm really worried that the shop is going to give me a hassle because the seller said "it's normal"... but from what I'm reading here, it can't possibly be good.

I would definitely look into getting it replaced. It's NOT safe in its current condition. I looked up the Smoktech Fury-S(I believe that's your device) and it claims to have a magnetic switch, with replaceable magnetic parts, so maybe the B&M can help you with that.

Ok I'll take it in tomorrow and see what they say. Thanks for all the help.

During my google searching I found a thread where some others were talking about a similar issue over in APV discussion, I might add to that thread and see if anyone found a solution. (Oops, I can't. Looks like I'm locked out.)

Thanks again. Glad I signed up on this forum. Very helpful.

You should be able to shortly. This was your fifth post, so you just have to wait for the next server update to give you access to the rest of the forum. Usually happens at 25 minutes after the hour I think.

If looking for another mechanical mod, may I recommend the Silver Bullet.

This is a classic mech that's been around and a favorite for years and years. It's got a recessed side-fire button which is safer than a bottom-fire button, and is more natural than a bottom-fire. It's made in Ohio, so if you ever get a problem with anything it can be sent to the manufacturer for a fix.

Inexpensive Mechanical Mod/RDA Setup

I own two SB and highly recommend them.

Some mods just can't handle high loads through the switch. The Big Nasty with the original switch is one that I have, the Magneto is another. You may experience better performance for a time by cleaning the switch components but the issue could return. The fix is to buy appropriate equipment or build your coil at a higher resistance.

I would take the device back to B&M and get it replaced with another one :) I would let them try to fix it and figure out the problem. Anytime I have had a problem, the vendors I shop from say to send it back and let their team look at it and they will send out a new one immediately :) (I shop online, but you have the advantage of taking in the malfunctioning one for a new one at the same time :) ) Good Luck! I would definitely take other members advice on not using it until you get the problem figured out :)
