Is it normal I can't see my profile picture?

The picture you see when you post is your avatar. I wondered where my pic went also. Then just tried it in the avatar spot....tada!

n00b I see your profile picture in your profile. I click on your name to get to your profile and your picture is there.

The picture that shows up next to our posts is our Avatar picture (not the same setting)

I understand that now. But I can't upload a new pic for avatar.. The option is not enabled for me.
