Is it safe to vape pure, store bought VG?

I've been vaping just pure VG that I bought at Whole Foods. It says "Food Grade" on it so I'm pretty sure it's safe to inhale. Was just wondering if it was safe to vape.

If it is USP then it is no more safe nor dangerous than what comes in most manufactured liquids.

I tried it once for the lulz. Massive clouds if you have a dripper. Slight sweetish flavor. Not good, but not unpleasant per se.

This ^^^. I make sure it says 'USP' on it. If it doesn't, then I don't vape it. Food grade is not good enough.

USP grade is fine I do it to get a base taste test for my DIY blends

Walmart Humco VG is USP grade. 6oz for $3.88 and you can find it in the cosmetics aisle around the pharmacy. ECF members have tested and approved its suitability over the years.

Walmart glycerin is widely shown on youtube for diy juice. I just ? if its pure from vegetable source of some animal base as well. A biochemist buddy that's into vaping steered me away and we did a group purchase from source with certificate. A gallon of both PG and VG was $60 to the door.

USP is supposed to assure standards and purity.

Glycerine USP is chemically indistinguishable per source. Meaning, it's at least 99.5% glycerine, with the vast majority of the remainder being water (and then trace elements). Whether it's vegetable, synthetic or "animal" in origin doesn't mean anything to us, as long as it's of USP grade purity.

vaping pure vg leaves a heavy feeling on the chest;

you get pg from farming supply stores such as tractor supply; and you might get it at pharmacies.

you can dilute vg with water so it can wick better and also not give you the heavy chest, but you can't dilute it too much otherwise it loses all the clouds. Cant go 50/50 water and vg; it's somewhere less than 20% water to 80% vg ;

if you get pg you can just dilute 50/50 no problem.


adding water to vg also seems to make it crackle and pop louder it seems to me

VG is used to moisturize skin also - in the medical section with skin stuff I've never found PG in a pharmacy though - but I believe you can find it in tractor supply stores.

Yes, you'll see it as 'glycerin' (it's vegetable glycerin) - make sure it says 'usp' on the bottle.

Where I live I find in together with essential oils and other bottled chemicals stuff; clove oil;lavender; peroxide;iodine;rosemary oil;

In Walmart it's on the cosmetics aisle. It's also used as a skin protectant and softener.

PG enhances flavor, VG enhances vapor levels. PG can be a little irritating to some (throat hit) and others like it for that. Most mix PG with somewhere between 10% and 50% VG to smooth out the vape. It's mostly preference. I vape mostly 100% PG or 80%pg/20%vg. Better or worse is more of an individual choice, though. A lot of people vape 100% VG with no issues and swear by it. We aren't all created equal in terms of vaping compatibility.
