Is it time to rewrap this battery?

With a mechanical mod I would say rewrap soon. With regulated mods, I wouldn't worry about it yet.

Here's one tutorial on how to do it.

I like to use clear new wrappers and slide a piece of paper under it with battery info written on it before I heat shrink it. The writing will never wear off and the look works for me :)

I would say yes, I'm about to order wrap since I have a couple sets that look like that and I don't want to take the risk. You can buy wraps for cheap and it seems simple enough to do (I've never done it though). Also not saying I'm paranoid about a small tear in wrap, but if it's simple why not just have the wrap without a tear?

I've thought about clear wrap but for a different reason. I just want to do custom pictures for my batteries. Like 2 batteries together is 1 picture.

Sigh I suppose I should seems easy enough.

Best way to get the rest of the wrap off?
I use scissors and cut the wrap open from the negative side, just a bit and then tear it open, making sure i don't damage the battery. Also the white ring around the positive pole can often be reused, or buy a few hundred new ones for a dollar.

Just tear the wrap off the battery, you can use a knife but start from the bottom, not the top when using a cutting utensil on a battery, only thing between the positive terminal at the top is that gap and that insulator donut, damage the donut you are nerfed, arc the gap between the positive post and negative body could cause a short you don't want so bottom up to remove, top down to place back on. The top of the battery there is a little white donut, do not damage or lose this, it is an insulator ring, once the wrap is off place the insulator ring back onto the top, slide the new wrap down over the battery, make sure that there is equal overhang on top and bottom. Then get a hair dryer, set on high heat, let it heat up then shrink the wrap snug and folded over both ends, let the battery cool down about 30 or so minutes after. Also always good to add a sheet of donut insulators into every battery order, never hurts to have them on hand for less than .50 to 1.00USD along with spare wraps.

As a just because, I like using my ceramic tweezers to get under wrap at the bottom. Yes, it's still OK to use scissors only, but I hate metal near my batteries period.

And rewrapping is very easy. A hair dryer is good enough. Just don't forget or lose that white disc insulator on the positive end. You should place it back in when rewapping.

Yes, I'd rewrap it too, I would say maybe cover with some black insulation electrical tape normally, until you can get to it, but that's just too close to the battery top for my comfort.

If your mod doesn't have a ribbon (most of the "pop out" battery mods do) you could certainly install one yourself. Depending on your mod, this may or may not help. I had an IPV-3 mod that was hard on batteries, even with the ribbon, as they were pretty snug. Using my steampunk where the batteries slide in and out has made things immensely easier for me. I don't have major problems with my charger anymore, now that I've been much more gentle with them, but some mods are kinda hard when it comes to getting batteries in and out. The good news is wraps are cheap, and you can see how easy it is from some of the posts above. Good luck!

Cool guess I'm have to do this on my day off sigh they got a full charge too
Flat or charged, doesn't matter. Even a flat battery still has over 3 volts and can deliver enough current to injure you. I still have a serious scar from when I shorted an 18650 with my wedding ring while re-wrapping it.

I would put some electrical tape on that nick, if you can manage it safely, and I'm still not going to recommend vaping it. Good luck, though, it's your choice. But really, at LEAST see if you can get a small piece of electrical tape on it, though that looks like a difficult area to "repair" that way. Oh boy, let us know how it went.

You said you had rewraps, can you not be a few minutes late and just rewrap it? It's easy....
I understand if you can't.

I looked at wraps on RTDVapor. I found the wraps but did not find insulators. Where did you get your insulators and wraps?

I've purchased wraps and insulators from FastTech. I purchased these supplies way before I found a need to use them. I had never re-wrapped a battery until recently. It was very easy and took less than a few minutes (once I found a hairdrier that was hot enough to quickly shrink the wrap).
