Is it true that newer Samsung 30Q's don't have any markings on the body?

Hey guys, after the VERY helpful advice and essentially a "crash course" in the High Drain 18650 models. In that last post I mentioned that I Bought what a few people and I believe are fake Samsung 30Q's from a Vendor on Ebay with very high sellers rating and guaranteed refunding if unhappy. (I know, I know that doesn't mean anything in the battery world. Now anyway lol) so I watched a video of all the signs of a fake 30Q but the newest one I found was dated in 2016 and the seller DID refund me but is saying that "The newer versions of the Samsung 30Q have no markings on the body...Some batches get fakes in them." Well all four lack markings on the body but a few things to look out for a fake are not there (the dotted numbers & letters as opposed to solid lines, the "D" didnt have the horizontal lines cross the vertical line on the top and bottom the "D", it has the Samsung 3-style prongs at the positive end) but the lack of ANY markings underneath the pink wrap which is also much more vibrant or in other words not "Transparent" as seen in videos to see the underlying numbers and markings on the body. I think he doesn't want me to post that they are fake as hes sold thousands of these 30Q sets but i want to be sure they are too before I do. I hope you guys csn help shed some light on this b/c if these are fake, this guy is ripping people left and right with more than just the 30Q with many models and almost all his items are batteries & batt. accessories. If they are fakes should I just recycle them or is it safe to use them in a sub-ohm tank with my IPV2 at no more than 50w?

Thank you guys and again thank you for the help in yesterday's post as I have all the info down and bought single packs of 20S's and VTC6's. I cant wait until the Vtc6a's hit the stores, whenever the heck that will be.

Possibly I don't understand your question.

I've never seen an authentic 30q that doesn't have the identifying letters & numbers / model # on the wrap.

Do yours have a rectangle ' shipping label / sticker ' on them?
(usually white sometimes clearish) generic info something like ' 18650 3000 mah 3.7v '

If so, peel one off & see if the ID / model # are under the shipping sticker/ label.

Thats just it theres NOTHING on the batt itself. The batt came with the silver IMR sticker over the ONLY markings /ID/Labeling on the entire batt. Shell & body
I don't know that any cell has markings on the BARE cell....meaning on the metal housing. All markings that I am aware of are on the wrap.

Even my 5a 2000mAh old and new have Something on the battery. Again this guy sells TONS of batteries and if their fake he should be at least warned you know, if the are indeed fake. Yes it has all identification info to a real 30q (except the pink shell wasn't translucent enough to see through to the body and any marks that are supposed to be on the battery) but a few signs of a fake (the washer is flimsy, [but not as much as in the vids [last one dated in '17] very solid pink as to some vids you can even see the numbers underneath the shell, this was not that)

Ok, in the spirit of 'what the heck', I just undressed my newest 30Q. I bought it a couple of months ago from my usual UK vendor.

I can confirm that there's text on the battery's metal shell.

Right - off to rewrap!

Well, now I can't say that I don't know of any  Thank you for your sacrifice. ♥

Can’t say for certain if the lack of markings means you have received a fake cell – marking can change during production. If you Google “fake Samsung 30Q” you will find many sites that compare fake to authentic, this includes comparing the physical dimensions of the cell. You may have to remove the wrap to get a better detail.

Have you compared the dimensions and physical details to Mooch’s test?

Bench Retest Results: Samsung 30Q 3000mAh 18650…a great 15A/20 battery!

I agree with Punk in Drublic. If you're not absolutely confident the cells are genuine, take the refund and get replacements from somewhere better known. If they aren't genuine, we have no way of knowing what use would be safe and what wouldn't. Maybe they're B-bin 30Q's that will be fine under 40 W per cell. Maybe they're meant for flashlights and can't handle more than 1.8 W. Maybe they're lousy batteries with no quality control whatsoever that will blow up if you bump them (not likely, but not impossible).

I think you're looking for absolute proof that the cells are either counterfeit or genuine. You aren't going to get it. Sometimes there is evidence that a cell is fake, but it's impossible to prove any given cell is authentic (at least not without $10,000 worth of equipment and a series of tests that will inevitably damage the cell). At the consumer level, there's just no way to distinguish between an authentic cell and a really good counterfeit. That's exactly why it's so important to stick to known, reliable vendors. They won't guarantee you never wind up with a fake, but they do have reliable supply chains and most spot check their shipments in some way and investigate the issue if something shows up, so the risk of a fake will be many times lower.

Well – the seller has offered a refund, if you are not confident that you received an authentic cell take advantage of the refund and purchase from one of Mooch’s recommended sellers.

I agree and he was extremely and i mean more than willing to refund me based on my word. I've sold stuff on Ebay and had to have Ebay intervene because what I was selling WERE authentic and they were convinced they recieved a Fake. Although to my benifit the company is really small and was able to give Bay the batch # and that it was inspected before leaving their facilities. While he refunded the purchase he adamantly denied sending a return form and is not asking for them back. My point in saying that is if I were the seller I would want to know "Hey WTF! i'm selling reals in a Sea of Fakes and you got 4x fakes (not just one MAYBE 2). Your 'FAKE FAKE FAKE' would be a blemish on my rating." I'd want to know if your an Ebay troll or was he really unlucky or whatever if i Knew I was selling real batteries. From the mind set of someone who knows their stuff is fake this makes more sense; they would want you as happy as possible to encourage the "pitty" factor so I dont write a scathing review about how I not only didn't get use from the products AND I lost my cash. Again the battery professional at Fry's who seems to know a lot based on my 18650 @Mooch 18650 intro vids (18mm diameter 65mm in length 0=cylindrical style. I know the basics and the understanding of High drain batts.) Said these would be extremely well made fakes but the lack of absolutely any markings on the cell itself made him reccommend not using them because I cant positively identify how many amps it has.

Got it. Yes I was looking for a definitive answer but thank you for clarifying that that will be hard. I want to send these to someone who has that equipment to see cause again this guy is a HUGE vendor on Ebay (Yes i've since learned how big a "Dark market" it is and will only order from IMR. Which is where my VTC5A's are coming in from with the $$ used from the refund) and This is just the humanitarian in me but I dont want someone using these batts. In a device that would pull about 30a CDR and having the batt reach Thermal Instability or other bad things that can happen when using insufficient batteries in deviced that NEED them.

Mine have the classic Samsung 3 prong vent guard
Maybe there's a difference between button top (which I have) and flat top batts. On the website it's listed as a 15A batt and I use it in a Provari and the batt I have pushes slightly below 3A the way I use it.
