Is long term dripping on the atty bad?

Hi Guys,

I have been doing some tests with different wadding and teabags on which gives the smoothest pull and I have found overall DD on the atty seems to be the best in terms of smoothness and also juice conservation.

I find the wadding takes up the juice too much and your never sure when to drip where as you get a slight wack off the atty when it is time to redrip but you get to drip a lot less overall.

Is this bad for the atty, granted they are not exactly expensive but how much does this reduce the life by?

Dripping has a learning curve. I popped my first atty by dripping. You just have to learn the subtle difference between having enough juice, and needing to drip. Sometimes while dripping your atty will be running a little dry, but you will still be getting vapor and a decent taste. You just need to learn when it's time to redrip, and your attys life span should be just as long as it would be while using a cart.

I have been dripping with my manual 510, manual 901 and my Chuck since July. I have only killed 6 attys since then and one of those was because I dropped my Chuck and it landed on the atty. I do have some that I had to finally clean to get some nasty or persistent flavor out of, but other than that there have been no problems here. I use 4 drops for a 510 atty and 3 drops for the 901 atty. Four drops in the 901 seems to flood it and cause it to leak out of the hole on the side of it.

i started dripping with my blucig that went real but when i got my 510 i started getting issues with the wick expanding out and coming in contact with the coil badd taste

Cool, cause this is my overall issue, burnt polyester does not taste good! I might keep at it as it costs the same price for 3 atty's as one bottle of juice so I think its better economics!

The problem with dripping comes from excess juice getting directly on the coil. If I drip it is 2 drops directly on the bridge, and I get about 10 hits. A good cart should wick juice to the bridge without getting as much on the coil. With dripping there is also more of a chance you will vape with a dry bridge, as the dripped juice is used up. This overheats the coil, which causes it to not last as long. I use the ZFM cart mod in general, which is one of the "auto-drip" mods, but it doesn't get as much on the coil that I can tell as DD would have. So I guess the moral of the story is as long as you drip perfectly and stop vaping before it is completely dry, the atty should last as long as not dripping, but this is not always perfectly done.
