Is my Clearomizer lifespan normal?

I'm just over 3 months of vaping only. Which is awesome, and I feel so much better! Up to this point, I've been using a stack of 808 batteries, with Kanger 808D-M3 Clearomizer nearly all of the time. I was smoking about 1.5 to 2 packs of analogs before making the switch.

My questions is how long should these clearo's be lasting for me?

Usage: I always have 2 on me at once, each with different flavor in them. And switch between them throughout the day - sometimes every other hit :p Been filing them 3-4 times per day, as they only hold about 1ml each. Been vaping 100% VG if that makes a difference (red oak line from JCreek).

Results: Right now they're lasting me about 5 days, 6 days max. Then they just get too gunked up, poor flavor, poor vapor. Is this normal, based on my usage? If it is, I'm fine with that, just wondering what other people's experience has been.

The Future: Switching over to eGo / 510 based setup, which should be here on Monday (to expand my options). Along with some eVods, so hoping they last a little bit longer for me. I'm also going to to try some alternate juices with 50pg/50vg and some 30pg/70vg to see if that makes a difference in my lifespan.

Appreciate all this help this forum has given me over the last couple of months. Mostly just as a lurker, but a couple days ago I figured it was finally time to sign myself up and join the club!

Welcome , but 5 days using VG seems pretty good to me . A lot of the clearo's come apart for cleaning . Then do a dry burn to git rid of the gunk build-up on the coil . Then they should work like new again . THE Evods use replacable atty heads , so when it gets too gunked up , you can opt to clean it , or just change out the head . Good Luck

Hm. Maybe I've got low standards but I go a few weeks with JC without much of a problem. I actually, reading about it, went and checked the clearo with Vanda and, yeah, it was time. The coil head is pretty gunky. I may have let it go too long. Put everything in to soak, filled another clearo. Vaping Vanda now.

I use the "rebuildable" types (not really rebuildable except that the heads can be replaced) from here: Vision Stardust 2.0 Rebuildable eGo Clearomizers (VV is really peppy when it comes to shipping your order out, I get my stuff fast :) ). The heads are $3 a pop so even if I'm a little lax about taking care of them, they're not expensive.

Or maybe Visions are better at handling 100% VG. I'm not sure. Either way, I don't seem to have as much trouble with JC's Red Oak as some seem to.

pure vg chemically is sugar. what happens when you cook sugar? getting a week out of a heavily used clearo with vg is pretty good for one you cant dry burn. especially 808 equipment.
when you get the evod you have to learn how to clean and reburn the heads as well as if you are the adventurous type you can rebuilt them for pennies.

5 or 6 Days using 100% VG doesn't sound out of the Ordinary.

If you Flush Out your Clearo with Hot Tap Water at every/every other refill I think you will find that you could Extend there lifespan a little.

No need to completely dry out the Clearo. Just Flush, Shake, Blow and Refill.

The juice you're vaping can make a big difference too. Darker juices seem to gunk up my clearos a lot faster. I didn't even get 3 days out of an evod filled with dark chocolate before i had to clean & dry burn, but another evod filled with a clear tobacco flavored juice is still going strong after 8 days.

Yeah... Very Sweet e-Liquids can do the Same thing.

Thanks all for weighing in on this :toast:

It does sound like my experience (lifespan) with these little Kanger 808D-M3 is pretty normal.

Seems to depend on the kind of juice too, as you all mentioned.

JC Solstice (darker colored) definitely gunks up quicker than JC Ranier (pretty clear).

When you refill your Clearo, do you guys just top them off, or pour out the little bit that's left and then fill?

I'm asking, because it does seem to almost "distill down" and concentrate throughout the day. If I just keep topping off, by the end of a couple of days the remaining juice in a low level tank is extra dark. Like it's really concentrated. Considering changing my habit and just dumping that last little bit at the the bottom, and then filling.

I top off, but I also don't vape anything higher than 50/50 VG in a clearo, and don't have any dark juices being used in them, so if you're noticing the liquid thickening or otherwise getting weird, it might be a good idea to at least dump the excess, if not disassemble the clearo and soak the head in Everclear/vodka/hot water for a little while and allow it to dry before refilling. Would also probably extend the lifespan of your clearos.

Semi-unrelated, but what brand of 808s are you using? About to grab a few more and wouldn't mind hearing what you're using before I make a purchase. Hard to find anyone on here that still uses them in my experience, so many have moved to eGo or VV/VW setups now..

Yeah, pretty good life for doing 100 VG. Me, I'd be complaining if I didn't get 2-3 weeks before even having to clean my clearos but, I run 100% PG and, DIY with very little sweetener and only light colorless to colorless flavorings, just what it has to have to taste like what it is. I clean once every 10-12 fills and, replace the heads after about 10-12 weeks.

I never let them go completely dry, except right before cleaning and, I have yet to burn a wick. That's the difference a little DIY and understanding what does what to clearos (or any carto, atty, etc...) and just using whatever juice.

Sure less vapor on PG but, the flavor is good, and my hardware stays cleaner longer and lasts longer.

Sure thing on the 808's Kellycat.

Battery wise, I have a lot of different kinds. About 1/4 of a coffee cup worth, that the wife and I have been sharing. She uses carts, but I've been using clearos for a while now - for the convenience factor. Hope it's ok to link to items directly like this (below), if not someone feel free to what me with a stick or something

Kanger 808D T4 Clearomizer - EVcigarettes.com
I tried these first. Didn't really care for them. The tips didn't stay on very well all for me. And a few of them cracked at the top pretty quick, which made the lose fitting tip even worse.

Kanger E-Smart 808D-1 808 808D1 Clearomizer
These are somewhat new. I decided to give them a try (even though they're a little more pricey than my "go to" clearo). I really liked how they vape. Lifespan coil-wise seemed a bit longer as well. However, the tip at the top is hard plastic. The first tip broke off after 3 days of use, and with the second one the tip broke off after the 2nd day.

Kanger 808D-M3 Clearomizer - EVcigarettes.com
These are my go-to clearo on an 808 setup. As I mentioned, I get 4-5 days of life out of each, generally with 100%VG. After that, I hot water bath, and move them to my "I'll use these if I ever run out of new ones" pile. Never had a problem with a tip breaking. About 2 out of 24 of them cracked towards the top after 2nd round of use (after cleaning).

There definitely may be something better out there. But these are the only ones I've tried so far. You can get them from other vendors I'm sure, if for some reason you're not a fan of the one I've liked above. Switching to Twists / eVods which should arrive today, but I'll be keeping some of these around for backup - since we have so many 808 batteries around the house. Hope this helps ya!
