I'm waiting for my MVP 20W to arrive, so in the meantime I've been trying to read up on all I can about voltage and watts and ohms.
I've always used a standard voltage ego style (elcheapo) battery up until now.
I'm excited about using my new MVP 20W battery when it does arrive, but I want to make sure I'm using it safely.

The coils that I will be using (or at least the ones I have on hand) are the Aspire Bottom Dual coils, 1.8 ohm & Aspire Bottom Vertical coils 2.1ohm
I found this voltage chart online.. http://vtpics.vapertrain.com/voltagechart.jpg and I am wondering if I am reading it correctly or not.

So say If I am using say the 1.8ohm coil in my clearo, in order to do it safely, I should keep my volt settings somewhere between the 3.0v & 3.8v range, which based on this chart would put my wattage at a range of 5.00watts - 8.45watts

What, if any, would the advantages, and/or negatives be, if I used a coil with a higher resistance?

Ignore all the charts and vape to taste.

The charts were developed when we were using higher resistance carto's that had little airflow. Set you mod in voltage or wattage mode. Start at the lowest number and adjust up until you find your "sweet spot" for your flavor. If you start to get a burnt taste (we call these dry hits) dial it down a notch or two.

The MVP is a regulated mod. You are totally safe using it.

You can look at charts until your eyes bleed, you just have to play with it until you find a setting comfortable for you. I have an mvp as well. I use the aspire nautilus tank with a 1.7 ohm atty and I usually keep it comfortably set at 9 watts. However, in my experience, some flavors taste burnt at that setting so I turn it down and all is right with the world

See, I'm learning something new every day :)
I always thought 'dry hits' meant when you pressed the button on your battery, inhaling at the same time, and got nothing (no vapor, no taste).
okay so this is going to be one of those 'stupid questions' but the 'burnt taste' that your describing, would this be something I would definitely recognize?
Like "eeewww..that tastes like BURNT TOAST" kinda burnt or something else.

Sounds silly, but I'm not sure if I have ever experienced a 'burnt taste' or mistaken it for just a crappy e-juice.

Throw the silly charts in the trash and vape to taste not to a number.
Start off at a low power setting and slowly increase power taking a vape or three on each setting until you find what you like, if you get an burnt taste turn it down.

I think you just answered my 'sweet spot' question :p THANK YOU!

"Burnt toast" would be the beginning of a dry hit. Ideally that's when you back down the voltage/wattage. A serious "dry hit" feels like inhaling a "red hot coal". This usually only happens if you change flavors types and forget to adjust your v/w down before vaping (and the new flavor needs a much lower v/w level).

This can also happen if your tank has (or develops) some problem wicking.

When I use to use my Sigelei, I would just pick a low starting point and slowly increase until it started tasting bad. Then I would know. Each atomizer can be totally different. There are also some very good voltage calculator apps for the phone. (ex. Steam Engine) I don't use those either anymore but thought I'd throw it out there. Good luck to you and happy vaping.
