Just got an eleaf ohm meter. Took a coil top atomized I built that works and tested it. Its 32g micro coil I think 9 or 10 wraps on a 1/16 drill bit, cotton, and it tested at 3.9 ohms. That doesn't make sense. Put my variable voltage matrix-s battery on it and each setting hung out at 3.5 volts. New batteries. Please tell me its not a piece of crap. I don't wanna buy a new one. :-( I'd rather know it is user error.

Here is a coil calculator that should give you an idea of how a build is going to turn out.

Is your ohm meter the kind that you screw on the atty or one that has pointy probs that you touch the coil wire with?

High readings can come from loose parts or wire sticking out touching things.

There could be a few causes, but first thing, what ohmmeter are you using? Are you testing right on the coil itself or in the atomizer? Perhaps there's some juice or buildup in the connector that would cause a high reading. Not to mention, I've heard that coils can go up in value as they get used. Hey, it's a chance to build a new coil?

Yes you screw it on. I have read a dozen forums from multiple sites on microcoils and this wrap should be getting 1.5-2.0 depending. That is why i suspect the meter.

Are you sure you have read about 32g? Because 32g with 10 wraps does sound high resistance to me.

Edit : Just used the calculator, and it shows you need 12 wraps for 3.9 Ohms, which sounds just about right. So your meter is fine but you need to work on your coil building skills, :p.

Just kidding, :). As you said Practice makes man perfect.

32 ga 5-6 wraps hits approx 1.8 - 2.0Ω for me almost every time, so 10 wraps is going to be darn near 4Ω
30 ga on the other hand, I hit 10 wraps to get right at 1.8Ω, usually I have to wrap 12 to keep it above 2Ω
There is that much difference in the ga
My target resistance has always been 2.0Ω for my APV's...I try to go for 1.8Ω for my regulated eGo style batteries...I don't sub ohm
All my regular coil Protank style coils I vape at 6.5watts, my genesis style attys I run at 8 watts

Check the batteries in your meter too...if they are getting low it can throw off resistance as it runs volts thru the wire then measures the loss, too low a voltage (due to low batteries) equates to higher than normal resistance readings

Hmm I've not gone over 10 coils though. I first found a reddit thread on this. Then found an amazing tutorial elsewhere and a couple here. I shall try try again. See that's why I like microcoils, you can't really screw them up. Once you heat to red then press them together it is a nice, perfectly even micro. C'eat la vie!

So it doesn't matter if its micro or not?

It shouldn't matter. In fact (if I have my facts right), it's impossible to make a micro coil out of 32awg wire and not have absurdly high resistance. I did exactly the same thing you did and made a micro coil out of 32awg kanthal and kind of went, 'huh?' at the resistance. :)

So I think the solution is to use 5-6 wraps and wider spaced. It shouldn't affect anything, really. To make a true micro coil you'd need to use thicker wire like 28awg kanthal, or use 2-3 strands of 32awg and twist it together. Then make the 9 or 10 wrap micro coil out of that!

Happy building!
