How do i know the internal resistance f the meter?

I think the acceptable way is to short the connections on the meter and take a reading. Subtract this value (if any) from the reading on your coils.

*edit*

This may have been mentioned earlier (must stop speed reading) ;)

And how does one short the connections? Must give me details, messing with electrical devices is typically not on my maguiver list. :p

Whoa

Can you give us a link for the meter you bought?

If the meter uses replaceable batteries have you tried new batteries?

Assuming that the meter is at least working to the level that if your build was shorted it would show that, have you tried vaping the build? Does it hit like a 3.9 ohm coil - on the cold side and sluggish to warm up?

As always with these questions - pix of your coil build would help.

I'm new to this site so adding pics I can do but its not going to be easy lol. Yes brand new batteries, changed once to be sure. Also what does a 3.9 Vape like? Yeah I tried it. Medium Vape, clean flavor but not super pronounced. I just want to stay in safe levels, have good flavor and medium to large clouds.

Ohm Meter & Voltmeter 2 in 1 LATEST VERSION | Vape Demand, LLC. This is the meter. I have pics of the seperate readings I'm now getting. It now ranges between 1.83 and 2.64 and anything in beween. Seems to be Vaping okay, tastes good, medium vaper. I have a pic of the coil in the arty too. How do I post them? Ok wait I added them to my "stuff" album but I can't get them to upload to the post so if you please, go check them out and report back lol.

You have a short.
Nice meter. It should work great and I think it is.
Make sure that the legs of the coils are straight and not touching. Recoil and it should be ok....

It takes a little experience to get it right and after that you will be able to do it with your eyes closed.

Cheers

Aye, that's a beaut. The picture down the chimney does look like the coil is scrunched on one side, possibly causing a hot spot and making the readings jump around a little. I say if it's vaping, call it a success!

Thanks! Here's the latest. Wrapped a new one, 6 again. Its reading just over .7 (weird) but its consistant. Vapes great BUT I looked at the coil and its not turning red. Its definately Vaping, but why no visible heat? Is it the low ohms? Getting great GREAT flavor, but low to medium cloud. Using a 70vg 30pg custom flavor I call S'lime (strawberry lime) from ec.

Also should the coils width not be so wide that it is just touching the inside of the cylinder? Cuz it is a perfect, but not tight fit.

Definitely not. That would short out the coil to the ground. Batteries can be damaged when this happens. I try to keep everything centered and straight so that I don't have to worry about anything shifting around. Just keep practicing, it gets easier!

Touch the probes to each other and note the reading. If your meter can be zeroed adjust it till it reads zero with the leads touching. If it can't be zeroed subtract the reading you see with the leads touching from any reading you take.

In other words if you get .3 ohms when the meter is shorted and the reading for your coil is 3.0 ohms subtract 0.3 to get a true value of 2.7 ohms.

It shouldn't matter. In fact (if I have my facts right), it's impossible to make a micro coil out of 32awg wire and not have absurdly high resistance. I did exactly the same thing you did and made a micro coil out of 32awg kanthal and kind of went, 'huh?' at the resistance. :)

So I think the solution is to use 5-6 wraps and wider spaced. It shouldn't affect anything, really. To make a true micro coil you'd need to use thicker wire like 28awg kanthal, or use 2-3 strands of 32awg and twist it together. Then make the 9 or 10 wrap micro coil out of that!

Happy building!
I use 32g twisted with a drill to make my genesis style atomizer coils, 5-6 wraps of doubled up and twisted gives me right at 2.0Ω, with a single 30ga the same way I get really horrible hot spotting especially at the top where the coil leaves the wick between the wick and positive center post, with two paths for current flow it doesn't hotspot for some reason

with juice turning to vapor the heat that would normally turn the wire red is being wicked off..."dry burns" are what happens when there is no juice in the wick...that is when the wire will turn red. with juice in your rig you don't want the wire to turn red...that is hotspotting and it tastes like hot metal crap...bleh

Yeah you can have the coils almost touching inside the chimney...if they touch the side it shorts, very bad when that happens...with a rig with electronics APV it won't fire if it detects a short, on a mechanical it fires and can cause your battery to vent but usually results in a burn in two coil

to check the internal resistance of your meter leads and cables touch both Pos and Neg leads together read that value that's your internal resistance. write it down subtract that value from the value you measure from your coil. Some meters can be zeroed to overlook that resistance by holding the leads together and power up the meter in Ohms mode.

Like, pop the back off, find the wires and touch them together with the unit turned on? Sorry electricity is not my thing. I can rewire speakers and other kinds of torn wires but that's about it. I can build all kinds of things but shy away from electronics. That's why I'm kinda excited to be making coils.
