Ok are you using a little 510 meter as sold and used for vaping atomizers or an actual Meter as in Multimeter I assumed you were using a multimeter from your post

It's a 510 meter specifically marketed for ecigs. Tests battery and ohms.

ok then you have the little square device made for testing Attys If your going to get into building coils your much better off with an actual multimeter. I am a service tech for a local heavy industrial machine co and use a fluke meter. I use that for all my coil readings, You can get a decent meter at radio shack fairly cheap. The little atty ohms devices sold are ok, but I have seen several display different readings for the same coil by as much as 1.4 ohms. The one I bought is off from my fluke reading by 1.1 ohm It does however make a nice building stand so all isn't lost with that device.IMO

Ok put the same arty back on and it now read 1.83 when it just read 2.6 with zero changes to the arty. Just unscrewwed it and then put it back on. Meter is effed, yo!
Radio Shack actually sells a pretty good multimeter. If you want to splurge, get a Fluke, it'll never let you down. If the mod you have can also measure ohms, then all the better, it measures the whole build. I have an old Fluke 75 and I just touch the leads (doesn't matter what polarity) to the coil directly to get a baseline reading, then use the mod to read the system as a whole. So far, so good!
The picture you posted of your latest coil showed a little bit of space between the wick and coil. I saw a video pulling three pieces of wick through, and that's what I followed with the coil I built.
