Is my problem the juice or my atomizer/cartomizer/battery?

I am new to vaping. I just got my starter kit on Monday. It seems to be working fine. I've watched multiple "how-to" videos, and have ready many reviews and tutorials on the eGo-T. I'm not getting any burnt taste, and my vapor productions seems rather impressive.

My issue is flavor. I'm not tasting very much flavor (even in the strawberry I ordered with the extra flavoring). I quit smoking years ago (so the "dead" taste-buds that people seem to ask about when transitioning from analogs to vaping is not my issue), so I order juice with zero nicotine. I started vaping because I miss the act of smoking, and I like the flavors (I used to smoke flavored tobacco in a hooka on occasion).

I know that the resistance of the atty/carto combined with the voltage of the battery determine how much heat is delivered to the juice during vaporization. That's the reason I go the VV starter kit. I've tried all the juices on the different voltage settings, and most of them seem to have the most flavor with the 3.7v setting...but even at the setting I get "the most" flavor, I'm still not getting very much flavor.

Is my problem with the eGo atomizers that come with he eGo-T? I've read that a lot of people complain that they are not the ideal choice for most vapers, but I know it's also a very subjective thing...everyone has their favorite way of vaping.

I'm not interested in Throat-Hit, since I don't have nicotine in my juice. My main interest is FLAVOR. Vapor production is fairly important too, but is a distant second. If it doesn't taste good, the billowing clouds of vapor aren't enough for me to keep vaping tasteless juice.

So, I'm putting a call out to people more experienced than I. At first glance, does your gut tell me it's my equipment setup, or the juice I'm vaping?

BTW, the juice I've tried so far:

- green apple
- strawberry with extra flavor
- whiskey
- rY4

Hi Zach.

My suggestion is simple and cheap enough to try out. I saw that you made your purchase at MFS. I'm not a tank user, I'm an atty user and a direct dripper. Most PV users will agree that attys are the best for tasting liquids -- I find attys and dripping are the best of all worlds but that's a different argument. =)

With your kit I would suggest trying a couple of these. It's a sure fire way to pin the problem down sans spending a bunch of extra dollars and you can always use the attys later for taste testing if you go back to the T style.

just to clarify, a cart (cartridge) is different than a carto (cartomizer) carto has the atty built in.

the description of the kit you got says it comes with attys and carts, not cartos. although I thought an ego T came with tanks, but anyway, carts and cartos are different. I see the words interchanged here all the time and it makes me a little crazy because it can be confusing to new people

I'm not a dripper, I don't like it, and feel its a waste of time typically. BUT I do agree with Richie G, that it is a good way to measure the flavor of a juice, or a great way to sample. I always have an atty around just to try new stuff, it takes a lot of other factors out of the equation, so you can tell if the juice is something you like or not.

I too experience a lot of weak, and subtle flavors, even when ordering "extra" flavor. In some cases I have found that if they "steep" (sit around with the cap off) they improve in time, others never get better. Its a real trial and error thing, first you have to find a supplier that you like and is mostly consistent, then keep trying flavors until you find some that have the amount and quality of flavor you are looking for (sample packs usually a great option for this). Option 2 get the stuff and make it yourself (see the DIY forums), then YOU control the flavor, but will still probably find some flavors that are on the weak side.

It may be as simple as drinking more water. More water usually makes your eliquid taste better. Vaping is very dehydrating.

I don't think dehydration is the problem. I read about vaping causing dehydration before I started, so I always make sure I drink plenty of water throughout the day, and while vaping.

It looks like the consensus (here and at the thread bigtiime linked) is that the eGo-T system isn't the best at delivering flavor. I was afraid of this when I ordered the kit, but my .... retentiveness loved the idea of an easily switchable tank system for trading flavors, as apposed to the cartomizers (which have the filling that absorbs/holds juice). Cartomizers seem like they are not easy to switch flavors with. I'd have to have designated cartos for the various flavors I like to vape. Unfortunately, I am new and have only tried 4 flavors, so far, so I don't know what flavors I like to vape enough to dedicate a cartomizer to any specific flavor.

It looks like I'll have to try out a normal atty that I can drip into in order to test out flavors until I find something I really like. Once I have a nice flavor, I can use that as my standard to find the best atomizer, cartomizer, fluxomizer, tank, etc... to deliver the flavor I've been craving.

Cartomizers cost about $1.30 a piece. Use your tank to test flavors, and if you do like that flavor, fill up a cartomizer.

I'd go with the 2.0 boge or the 1.7 cartos.

The only problem is, my tank doesn't deliver enough flavor for me to really test them. Not much taste at all, just a little if I exhale through my nose, I get the scent, but don't really taste much besides that.

Yes, yes I can. =)

Clearly, you've done your homework and have a keen interest in this. You previously kicked a nicotine habit that many of us are still struggling with. You already know that you enjoy the hand to mouth action of smoking. And, I'm presuming that the throat hit that many of us so desire is not your bag either.

Well, Zach... you're MILES ahead of where many of us started. MILES. LOL The smoker that wants to make the switch to vaping has MANY more variables to consider and wade through.

Finding your (pun intended) sweet spot is the easiest part of the vaping curve. It's a matter of atty or carto or the T-tank that you already own and the right liquid.

Being that you are or will be a no-nic vaper you have another major advantage. No craving for nic means you will probably pick up the PV when you want to as opposed to when you NEED to, craving-wise. This suggests to me that an atty would fit your needs more so than a tank/carto.

Good luck to you.

I had the same problem with my ego-t. I found after I used it for a while I started getting more flavour. When it was brand new there was little flavour but I guess it worked it self in or something and i'm getting that sweet sweet cotton candy flavour now. What everyone else is saying is true thought. Dripping produces the best flavour, but if your like me and don't have the patience for dripping or just wanna vape on the fly like at work for example the tank is the best option. I've seen some reviews and videos that state if you pull the 2 little plastic pieces from inside the top of your cartridge you'll get more vapour and flavour. Also mayb a low res atomizer might help? Don't get me wrong i'm not an expert at this as i'm fairly new to vaping but i've used these tips from videos n reviews and i'm happily vaping away with great flavour.

I've heard a few people say this now. What is it about vaping that is dehydrating? is it the PG? You would think it wouldn't be any worse dehydrating than smoking but I;m very interested in learning more. I've tried to look it up but couldn't really find it anywhere. I even typed in dehydrating and dehydration in the search section, (which is how I found this post), but can't find anything in detail about what causes the dehydration and why. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have seen it posted exactly why, but I can't find it either. Your best bet would be to post in the Health or Ask The Experts section. Kurt is a chemist and he could tell you. Or one of the other smart people that post there.

In layman terms: PG & VG pull water out of the body.

Technical terms: PG & VG are humidicants. (Left in the open they pull water out of the surrounding air to themselves.)
