The gear: Black with copper vein VV Reo Grand, 306 atty with big bootiful amber glass drip tip.

The setup: Seeing a new MD today.

I've never been self conscious about my gear or vaping in public. Just do it, always done it, and if you aren't an assclown about it it's never been a problem.

So I was at the MD's this morning, just plonked my Reo on the credenza not thinking about it - that's me. We were chatting away about... me, and at some point the Doctor gestures at my Reo and asks "Is that your asthma inhaler?"

Well, I never need much of an excuse to educate an MD about vaping. :D When I told her it was an e-cigarette (have to get it in context somehow...) her eyes kinda bugged out. When I told her it had been over three years since I had my last cigarette her eyes bugged out even more. Have a feeling she has seen a lot of quit smoking fails.

Love playing show and tell with a Reo, because it's so 'not a cigarette' appearance actually makes it easier to explain what's going on when you need to do a show-and-tell. It has stuff people can actually relate to: batteries that look like batteries. A bottle that when I tell the MD "that holds 6 ml's of liquid" - they get that bottle, get the capacity, and what that means for intake when you talk about your liquids usage and nic level. "..and it goes from here up to there and gets heated by that and..." Everything is self evident.

We chatted about the whole mg's/ml issue, nic absorption method and intake, the flexibility of changing or lowering nic intake - you know the 'teach an MD' drill.

I know she was impressed by the Reo. But to be honest I think she was more more impressed by the fact that she met someone who hasn't had a single relapse in over three years. Gonna drop off some printouts for her from the CASAA library in a couple days.

Get them "asthma inhalers" out there my fellow Reonuts and maybe strike up a conversation! :)

Of course if that had been my old Tesla APV with a... well with anything mounted out it I bet she probably would have been asking a different question.

That is wonderful! And the time she took to listen and learn is priceless!

I have had a shorter version of my REO with the three doctor's I see on a regular basis. They all seem to be surprised at the value of a device that keeps me away from cigs. It has been three years for me also.

A couple weeks ago a guy came into work and was here awhile. He saw me vaping and asked if "that thing works". He uses a tube of sorts. He was not too familiar with the vaping equipment terms. He goes to a vape shop and they set him up.

I told him about ECF and encouraged him to check it out and to find what all is available to vapers.

Always good to get the word out that e-cigs can work. Then to show a device that puts vaping over the top and allows us to easily quit is awesome.

Doctors have a way of hiding their reaction to things and keeping you talking to learn more about you. She may have just thought that you were crazy.

If you are any judge of facial reactions/body language... no. Especially if they want to review the nic intake questions. (She brought that up herself, you know...) All the MD's I have had this chat with have asked about nic, trying to wrap their head around how that works out compared to nic intake from smoking - and all of them have had no problem with the nic intake matter after playing a little "fun with maths" with the ml's usage, mg's/ml and the known adsorption data. She especially liked the idea that the nic level is flexible and subject to being changed at will.
