Is there a variable voltage passthrough?

The type of PT I'm talking about would be direct to wall adapter - no battery to charge.

I made one years ago for something else. It was a vaporizer made out of a a soldiering iron and a dimmer switch but only worked on 120v house current. This would not work for a PV.

I think this would be a great idea for someone to try to design if no one makes them.

Hey those are some great ideas guys! Keep em coming folks.. er.. looks like there isn't one ready made so building one will have to be the way to go. How about finding things you can cannibalize that's cheap to do the job.. that power supply looks sweet but a lil pricy for me. The Evercool is a lil too involved for me, and I know nothing about pinball power supplies LOL.

One could probably use a universal type cheapo power adapter if it handled enough amps, but you would have to be near it on the wall socket to switch the voltages. This I don't like.

On thing you might want to keep in mind when running off of wall power, especially if using scanvenged parts, there's always some risk of utility power shorting inside the adapter resulting in electric shock. Not a good thing when using a metal atomizer with a metal tip, get it right in the kisser. The risk is minimal with most wall power supplies, probably less than the risk of a Li-Ion battery exploding, but something to be aware of anyway.

This is the best I have seen so far.. it goes up to 4.2 volts in 3 stages.

USB Variable Voltage Passthrough

I am a 5v and above vaper so this won't be good for me. As this thread is almost a year old, I have since taken to having a regular 5v passthrough, a 5v mod and a LavaTube VV on hand at all times - enough where I'll always have something 5v or over with charged batteries.

I'd love a passthrough that goes up to 6 volts but it seems no one makes one.

I got a multiplug switch mode wall adapter that has a rating of 7.5W to 13W. Now to find it and play a bit :toast:

Type: Switch mode universal power adapter.

Input Voltage: dual 240V/110V power 50/60 Hz (suitable for use abroad), UK style 3-pin plug.

Output Voltage: manually switchable 3V, 4.5V, 5V, 6V, 6.5V, 7V DC.

Output Current:
3.0v DC - 2500mA
4.5v DC - 2500mA
5.0v DC - 2500mA
6.0v DC - 2000mA
6.5v DC - 2000mA
7.0v DC - 1000mA

like this one ????? DONGLE

from site info page
..........Vornado 3-Stage Variable Pass-Through
(this is not a battery but plugs into the USB port of your computer for its power)
with voltages of 3.3v, 3.7v and 4.0v.
4 clicks takes you to each stage: BLUE 3.3v, PURPLE 3.7v, RED 4.0v
Cyclone Vornado Pass-Through is 1.5 inches in height.

they have gotten rave reviews ....folks seem to like 'em

Hi- I got the VV passthrough from DiscountVapers (linked to above) and even though the website lists 3 voltage settings, the one I got from them has a fourth setting. The fourth setting glows green when fired and I measured ~4.89 volts no-load. It has been working well for the few weeks I have had it. Not bad for the price. Cheers.

I have one of these and it is pretty great. It does notwork off of all usb wall chargers though. works fine with my usb on my computer.

I'm actually thinking of building a VV PT myself. I am trying to decide on what I'm going to use for the housing. I figure while I'm packing to move would be a good time to find things to cannibalize. I have a supply saved in my favs that I am going to order most of the internal electrical parts from, I'm not cannibalizing those, because I have a slight fear of being zapped by dong something wrong. Despite my fear, I am a tinkerer. I'm always taking things apart and splicing wires. I was kind of trying to think of a way to use an old Nintendo DS case (from a DS lite) and turn it into a VV PT. Without having batteries I don't have to worry about the size. The LCD screens are perfect to cut into and put the VV LCD into it. Buttons are all there, and it already had triggers for firing the device. So I'm looking into how to do it. Got probably another 20 hours worth of reading to fully understand the concept to do it myself. If I do it I'm going to make a You tube vid about it. Can never have enough tutorials, and I know how to write one.

From what I've seen it doesn't look super hard. I'm sure could build one too.

a handheld gameboy vaporizer sounds great vapRvixen. Have you ever seen the people that made the super nintendo coffee table controller? Look it up on youtube, its nuts.

Yeah! I saw that vid, it's kind of what gave me the idea. I'm also trying to think of items that might be a touch girlier. The standard black little box mod is just soo snooze. I'm artsy. Aside from writing I do a lot of other creative art things. Right now, as I pack my belongings from the last 12 years (didn't realize how much .... is accumulated in that short of a time period) I'm looking at everything before I get rid of it as a possible vapor. Everything I think might work for a possible vapor is being saved and packed in a special box of it's own, so once we move I can get started on creating some mods.

From pricing the guts of a mod, it seems it'll cost somewhere around $20 to build one, not counting batteries. If it works well and I get a couple of good ones I might start selling them someplace like Esty, and have a blog with tutorials and stuff, maybe do some custom work. Just a little hobby. It keeps the creative juices flowing when blank page syndrome kicks in.
