Is there any need to apply eliquid to the cartridge if you're 'dripping'?

Cartridges are not perfect, you still need to drip into the atty to get it started. This is true of any e-cig unless you are using cartomizers (atty/cart in one).

The purpose of the cart w/ liquid and filler in it is just to make it so that you don't have to drip into the atty or refill your cart with juice as often.

I got pretty sick of messing with it after a couple of weeks and started using cartomizers until recently. The cartos were just breaking the bank though, so I started dripping with a drip tip when I'm at home or about and just using the cartomizers when I'm in the car or reading in bed. I'd probably use cartomizers most of the time just because they're so convenient and easy to use except that they aren't as budget friendly as I like.

Honestly, I was able to avoid dripping (kind of scared of the whole thing) for six months but finally relented due to financial constraints. It's really pretty easy to do with a drip tip ($2) and the flavor is really good too.

You can always refill your cartos.

To the OP, there are ways to make the carts work better. I like tea bags for 510s. Cartridge Mods also, DSE901 carts work better than the 510 carts, but they need a couple mms ground off the base. Strictlyejuice.com sells 901 carts already modded for the 510 for $1.80. I only use the eGo mega attys/carts now, they work much better than the 510 stuff.

If you're dripping then there should be no filler in your cart and you want to drip 2-3 drops straight onto the atty then put your cart on and vape for a few puffs (maybe 10, but really depends on your vaping technique) then repeat, I would recommend a drip tip so you can drip without removing the cart each time.
If you're using the carts, then there should be polly fill, or bluefoam or something in the cart, totally saturated in eliquid (there's tutorials in the stickies for filling/refilling and carts) and that stuffing should touch the mesh in the center of the atty. You have to drip a couple of drops into the atty to 'prime' it and be sure it's wet.

If you're getting a burnt taste, then you're atty's running dry. Attys burn out when they're run dry, atty's work better over wet then over dry. Essentially, the eliquid is a coolant for the atty and produces vapor as a byproduct.

I found a thread or you tube video where you take a regular 510 cart, and pull out the filler. Cut it exactly in half. Fill up the cartridge to within 3mm or so. Then carefully put the filler back in. Make sure that when you cut the filler, to keep the fibers running in a similar direction. (you want the fiber ends to be at the tip of the cart) Put the filler back in carefully. its ok to press the end that is first going into the cart into a slight triangle so it fits in, but you want the face to be fluffed out, so that it compresses back together when stuffed into the cart, so that leakage does not occur. When you press the cart onto the atty, the mesh pushes the fill just slightly into the right position.

you will need to top off once you put the filler in there, until the top looks just like a slurpee (cant remember who said this, but it is a perfect description)

I was a big fan of the Tea Bag mod but not as much now. I can get more juice in with this technique. For some reason I was getting some leakage with the tea bag mod, and sometimes dry atty.

I find if I am careful, and not run it dry, you can reuse it nicely 2 or 3 refills. I receive a piece of fluvall filter (this stuff I got is white and fluffy and looks just like what came in the cart to begin with, but the person that sent it to me says its a lot better, and it is less prone to burning.

By cutting half the batting out of the cart, you are leaving more room for juice when you fill it. Just be careful for leakage, and I probably would not use this technique with an automatic battery, as the leakage can fry the battery. I use and Ego, and it has not leaked. I will try these carts it this weekend with my wifes auto vapor king 510. (I have auto and manual batts)
