Joye Ego batteries can be what's termed "upgrades." For instance, there's and Ego C and an Ego C 2 or Upgrade. The Ego C upgrade can be used in either "regulated" mode or "unregulated." The color of the manual button light will tell you what mode you've selected. Regulated is 3.3 volts with unregulated beginning with a fully charged battery is 4.2 volts but quickly drops to around 3.8 volts and then slowly drops with usage to 3.2 volts when its ready to be recharged. Most of the vape-time is spent around 3.5/3.6 volts. Most vendors give a description or instructions on their site on how to operate the upgrade so you'll be able to tell from that which model you're looking at. IE: Holding the manual button down for 10 seconds to switch modes with the light going from the usual blue (regulated) to orange (unregulated.)

For around $40 you can get a iTaste vv 3.0 which is vv/vw, it can be set from 3.3v to 6v or 6w to 11w. It has an 850mah battery with pass through and is about the size of a 650mah ego, and it has ego-cone threading. I have one with an evod that I take to work and keep in my pocket without any issues. It's not an ego, but it is really an amazing pv for it's size and price.
