Is this a side effect or allergy?

I'm 2 weeks into vaping and the last couple days my eyes have been really itchy and dry feeling. Lips are also getting dry and chapped. My eyes seem worse at night before bed and eye drops only help for a couple minutes. Not sure if the eye thing is an allergy, a side effect or withdrawal from cigs.

I'm using 80pg/20vg and 24mg juice. Anyone have an idea?

Are you drinking lots of water Clayton? Vaping dehydrates us.

I don't know how severe your symptoms are. Here is a great post on common symptoms when stopping smoking and starting to vape. If it were me I would drink lots of water and try a lower PG juice, say 30/70 PG/VG. If that's better, you would only need to figure out which of the two it was. The more severe your symptoms are, the more I would think it's an irritation/allergy. Best of luck with it!

You could try reducing the PG of your juice - some people on ECF report having sensitivity to PG. Only way to tell would be to start buying 100% VG juice and see if it makes a difference.

But as the poster above said, it's more likely to be dehydration. You have to drink more water than you imagine. I always have an iced water (or adult beverage!) next to me when I am vaping - otherwise my throat gets irritated, my nose gets dry and my lips chap.

Saying all that, something in the air right now is kicking my ..... I didn't know what allergies were until I moved to Texas. So it could be a run of the mill allergy too.

Or a combination of all three!

Thanks for the help. I don't think I can do a high vg juice..I need a good throat hit. I'll try drinking more water and better eye drops. If that fails Ill consider switching to vg

I'm thinking quitting cigs is the reason. I heard they suppress allergies and once you quit, your allergies come back with a vengeance.

At your nic level you will still have some throat hit. In fact, one of the most popular juices is Boba's Bounty and I understand it still gives a solid throat hit even at 100% VG.

PG is a food grade solvent which is part of the reason for the dehydration. It is generally considered safe, but make sure you keep plenty of water handy.

I'm a pure vg user because I have a sensitivity to pg. Those symptoms are just lack of water. When healing at the beginning you will need to consume a lot more water than usual. Then with pg, it really drys things out and there is more water to consume. Those symptoms are not an allergic reaction at all. Allergic reaction would be chronic cough, swelling, wheezing, hard to breath, and infections to the respiratory system. I had to give up pg or keep it to a minimal to keep from having infections, coughing, and shortness of breath. Love the smooth hit of vg, but i still get that throat hit because I am into mechs and sub ohms even through my nic level is now down to 6mg.

At the beginning you shouldn't worry too much. Especially if you are not getting overdose symptoms. I started out at 36mg. As the body and lungs heal, you will be able to absorb the nicotine better and will find yourself lowering it naturally. Also methods and vapor intake play a role as well. I blow out huge clouds using 6mg is like vaping little clouds at 24mg. Just listen to your body and adjust what you are using accordingly.

Thanks again for the help. I drank 2 bottles of water since I made this post and my eyes actually feel alot better and they are not near as dry. I guess I'm dehydrated lol.

That's good to hear! Now the big part is making it apart of our everyday lives. Not only was I addicted to a carton of cigs a week, I'm also addicted to coca cola. Lol

lol yeah. Im addicted to Pepsi. Need to find a way to break that vise next.

I've cut back since I have to drink more water now. I also drink more teas now but I admit that some days I do go on coca cola binges! Once you start to drink more water you'll know when you haven't been drinking enough because your vape isn't as flavorful & you'll want to drink more. Well at least that's what happens to me.

That makes sense, do you think it's possible I'm getting too much nicotine? I used to smoke 1 pack a day of Marlborough lights and I use 24mg juice...
That might be a bit high, but doesn't correspond with your symptoms.

You could try 18 mg. If it leaves you wanting, you'll know. It's a lot easier to figure out what works for you if you start low. Either way, after 2 weeks off the analogs, you can easily lower the nic, so getting 18 won't be wasted.
