Thanks alls, should I buy protected or unprotected battery?
Because someone advice me to buy the Sony Vct4 but seem those are unprotected

A bit late in the conversation...but...

Protected batteries pretty much have a fuse that prevents over a certain amount of power (amps) being drawn from the battery at one time. Usually, it limits it to 10A, and is seen on a lot of older chemistry batteries to keep them from overheating. If you get a good battery that can support a higher amp continuous discharge without overheating (IMR), you shouldn't need a protected battery.

Of course, safe use is the best defense. Make sure your batteries are in good working order. I prefer to use regulated mods to prevent shortages, use known good safe chemistry batteries and buy from a reputable source (there are a lot of fakes out there). I recommend using a regulated device (Variable voltage/wattage) for added protection, but if you use a mechanical mod (no electronics whatsoever), read up on how to do things safely and ask PLENTY of questions until you fully understand what to do and what to avoid before attempting to use a mechanical mod.

@beckdg ...........Wow, that's a lot of typing.

Nitecore may make a good product as far as engineering is concerned, but not from what I gathered when reading the breakdown on the components on (dampmaskin [IIRC]).

Wondering which specific charger and When?

I Have had 2 i4 Chargers, Both performing excellently well past purchase/usage estimates. The only reason for purchase of the Second was a Tight slide on the original and a Major Soda spill damaging the first charge slot output.(still works on 3 slots)

While I would not consider it the Best in Build Quality, I would have to give it a passing mark in Class for functionality, life span and purchase price.

Testing and conversations prompting only the best will do leave much of the market in the unacceptable category, which is unacceptable in lite of product usefulness and fit to affordability.

To say a Device is of lesser quality is fair. To simply label it Junk due to not meeting Top spec is unacceptable.

*Destroy all Cloupor mini 30w.........................50 had defective I.C. chips

Just saying :D

Again... problems still creeping up.

Quality control issue.

Much as we'd like to turn a blind eye and pretend it doesn't happen, people will sleep while charging batts.

I do.

And for the price difference, that piece of mind is priceless.

I buy Xtar from here on out.

Though, I never did say junk...
And I never said don't buy.

I simply corrected information.

VP2 Charger Recall: Xtar has notified us stating that the type of plastic used in the VP2 becomes brittle when cold, causing it to potentially break. They are in the process of sending replacements. If you recently ordered a VP2, you will be contacted with more information on how to return your charger for a replacement.

I just had to return an Xtar charger to the vendor. The lights on mine flashed from red to green and red to green. Out of curiosity I reversed the batteries and they charged normally. Apparently the factory worker crossed the polarity wiring. I contacted the vendor and they are sending me a replacement charger.

I'm not seeing your point.

So they didn't like the plastic and chose to replace all affected units.

Has nitecore made it a point to do that? Over and over with each issue? No...

And 1 guy 1 day wired 1 backwards... so what? There's plenty of fail safes in place and nothing was harmed. Defective unit was replaced.

Poop happens.

And we're completely missing the point carrying on this charade of semantics.

This isn't a provari debate. You don't have to defend your charger(s) of consistent shoddy workmanship and lousy QC.

ETA And you don't have to defend Baditude, either. He's a grown man who can defend himself quite well, with plenty of blind followers. /ETA

And the price difference from nitecore to the best on the market is negligible, miniscule.

I have an i2 and an i4 with all the aforementioned issues between the two. Who's going to give an RMA for them?

(And they were manufactured after a slew of "rolling changes") :glare:

Again, though, this is getting into merely bickering banter and blind product loyalty.

Defeats the purpose completely.

And people will continue to follow bad information blindly.

Shrug...

The xtar batteries are actually Sony vtc4s. But, they have a button top added, and are very long. They don't fit in most of my mods.

Sony vtc4 if you need up to 30A CDR (75W with one battery, 150W with 2 batteries, 225W with 3 batteries).

LG or Samsung if 20A batteries are fine. Vtc5s are good, too, but cost more.
LG: HG2, HE2 or HE4
Samsung: 25r or 30Q

So i will need to use on the new smok e-pipe which is a 75w single battery the only one to use is the sony Vtc4?

:lol::lol::lol::lol:

Saw no need to post all the complaints found. Assume an example would show, with any production manufacturing, crap can happen.
A one off defect form any name manufacturer, uncaught, could burn down a home:glare:

Perhaps my assumption was incorrect.................

Never mind, points covered.

If you are planning to run it over 60W, I would use a 30A battery. The vtc4 can sustain damage at 30A, but it has the most mah. The vtc3, or the LG 30A batteries may be a tad better at a full 30A, but are only 1500mah.

To be honest, I don't like to push batteries to their max. They will begin degrading if you do. Well, they all degrade from use, but it will happen faster if you max them out. I go to a two battery mod myself when I need more than 50W, but that's me.m

If y'all want to nitpick, take it to PMs please.

Actually, I appreciate the debate........Gets me interested enough to do more digging. Self education so to speak.
Yes, we all have preferences, and no we don't need:
a) More expensive, better built
b) Lower cost, less QC
or not, debates.

Those go hand in hand so to speak. The real Question is, will any given unit give satisfactory performance in Class.

XTAR is a great Charger.........So Is*
Efest LUC
Pila
NiteCore
etc.
*in Class

Nothing wrong with purchasing a $40-$100 Charger, or if desired, a $16 charger.
As to Who will cover what...............Shop Smart.<my i4 was 6month from a reliable reseller - Their coverage>

Knowing is key to smart purchasing. That said, here is a wealth of available information.
Batteries and chargers
